Hi all!
Now I am super confused. I recently bought an NFL Blitz 99 cabinet. I found out that this cabinet was most likely a 25khz monitor and that I was screwed.
After some inspection I find that this was a conversion from an old Mortal Kombat 2 cabinet. I know that blitz has a dip switch for being played in either a 15 or 25 khz mode. On the back of the montior it is marked WG087980. I went to Wells Gardeners site and can not find that specific model.
Can someone please tell me if my monitor is 15khz or 25khz. I am pulling my hair out!
Thank you all!

could be wrong but i expect you have a 7000 series wg in that cab as mortal combat was a 15k game(well all the thousands i have worked on did-but i guess it would be typical of the u.s to be different-no offence)-if your cab works o.k why are you bothered?
-
Because I can not mame it very well if it is 25khz.
-
well you did'nt say that did you-anyway ain't it obvious if the board is set on 15k and the picture is perfect then its 15k or am i missing something ;)
-
If you get the new Ultimarc video card, doesn't it work with both resolutions anyways?
-
sorry there boss. Didn't mean to sound rude. I just bought it and its sitting at my new house waiting for me to move in and work on it. Its a present to me for my new game room. The NFL Blitz game was not working in the cabinet but when powered on and then off the monitor did flash a bit. So i'm not positive it works but figured that any activity was somewhat a good sign.
I have been reviewing these boards and read contradicting information on this cab. Some people say they have converted this cabinet no problem, others say it is a 25khz monitor though.
Brain is going to explode!

o.k i see your problem now,its best to prove the monitor is fine first-do you have access to a multimeter as i suspect you have a bad psu-also always good to post a pic of the chassis as we can tell what it is,another way to prove the monitor is operating is to turn up the screen volts on the flyback transformer to see if you get a white screen, although this does not prove 100 percent that the monitor is functioning perfectly at least it points toward psu or game board or signal problem

Blitz runs in either 15 or 25.
Yor prior posts indicated that it was a Blitz cabinet, which I guess a bunch of us assumed meant original cabinet with a 25kHz monitor. If it is a conversion (important piece of info), then all bets are off and I would tend to think that it is a Std Res (15kHz) monitor.
Take a good, clear pic of the chassis (the circuit boards on the monitor) and post it in the Monitor forum. I'll bet it gets ID'd pretty darned quickly.
Cheers

Thanks for the help guys, I will be back over at the house tomorrow and will take a pic and post it. You guys are great! My previous post i did not realize it was a conversion. (my bad)
Just out of curiosity was MK2 a 15khz game or a 25khz game anyway?

My previous post i did not realize it was a conversion. (my bad)
No big deal ... 99% of the time it wouldn't have affected the answer ... you just hit the magic 1%.
AFAIK MKII was Std Res (15kHz), so you should be good to MAME (but let's wait to ID your monitor first).
Cheers

I would assume if it was originally an MKII then it would be a standard res monitor as mentioned already.
Look at the dip switch settings on the Blitz board..... Dip bank #2 ( U9 ) if switch 2 is ON and switch 3 is OFF ....then Blitz is currently set to play on a standard res monitor.

But if you are indeed having problems with the monitor, then yeah, we'll need to ID it to be for sure on anything else.

Great idea! Ok, i am looking at the arcade unit now, I found U9 but it has both 2 and 3 off. Could this be why the monitor does not turn on at all?
On U8 dip 2 is on and dip 3 is off? DOes the make a difference? Sorry for the questions guys.
I dont want to start fliping switches until i know whats going on.
