Are there any open source front ends? I dont know about you guys, but i think this could dramaticlly increase the usability, and functionality of all front ends. Maybe not even full open source, but plug ins? For example, Atomic FE, amazing fe, the best ive found, the only thing I would change, is have the jukebox go through sub folders, if it was open source, I could change that, and re-submit it online, so that everyone could use it, Any thoughts?

A quick glance at the wiki (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends) reveals several open source front ends:
AdvanceMenu
Arcade.EXE
ArcadeOS
GameLauncher
Kymaera
Ultrastyle
Wah!Cade
I believe only Wah!Cade is under active development at this time by the author.

o rly? i didnt even notice that lol, thanks, if you had to choose one of those to use as my starting point which would you choose? if you dont mind?

I would like to see GameLauncher have theme support. It was planned but it never happened.

I forgot about Wah!Cade too. How's the speed on that, being scripted in Python? Anyone know? Does it work on Windows?

That's a Linux port of Mamewah, I believe...
-
More accurately, it looks like a Python port of MAMEWAH that uses GTK. There are GTK libraries for Windows, however.
-
I was able to get Wah!Cade to run under Windows, but I forget how I did it. There was some amount of trouble to get a Windows Python interpreter and all the libraries to work.
It was a few versions of Wah!Cade ago.

wow thanks for all the disscussion guys, after some frustration trying to deal with the source of the open source ones, I decided to get really ballsy and try making my own, im running a pretty powerful pc, so im not worrying about alot of things such as space and memory like these are concerned. Im coding it mainly in c sharp and Im going to try to hardcode as little as possible so that if anybody wants to use it, they can get it to do whatever they want.... oh yeah, and it will be open source lol.
