Hello everyone. StrategyWiki.org is a site that is attempting to be the GameFAQs.com of wiki sites. Last week, I got the green-light to begin laying the groundwork for a guide on how to find, install, and use MAME. The goal is to keep the guide easy to understand by users of any skill level, and yet comprehensive enough to discuss almost every detail. It's a difficult line to walk, and my contributions so far may have aired more on the comprehensive side than the easily understood side. But that's why I'm here.
I want to invite all of the MAME experts out there to sign up for an account on StrategyWiki.org if you don't already have one (there are no anonymous edits), and have a go at editing the MAME guide, building it up and making it bigger, better, and perhaps even easier to understand. You can have a look at what's been established so far at http://strategywiki.org/wiki/MAME/Guide and start editing any time. As of the time of this post, only the Misc. section (ROM Managers, Controllers, and Cabinets) hasn't been fleshed out, but a rough layout is present.
I encourage everyone to contribute to the guide, and hopefully to the rest of StrategyWiki as well. My personal page there is: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/User:Procyon and feel free to get in contact with me through my discussion page if you have any questions. Thank you very much! ^_^

It's a good idea, but..
Shouldn't we be doing this on our own Wiki?

That's just what they would be expecting.

I can totally see your point about that. But due to the fact that there are already several pages dedicated to games that actually play on MAME, and thus could be categorized as MAME games in addition to Arcade games, I figured a one stop shop would make sense. I honestly didn't know if a MAME guide would be appreciated in the byoac wiki since, if you're there, you're porbably somewhat familiar with MAME already. Just a hunch though. Anyway, some cross promotion between the sites might generate traffic, and I was already planning on mentioning the byoac wiki in the guide. I just needed to take a breather.

There's this nice spot for it and everything:

Cheers.

Well certainly arcadecontrols.com isn't the GameFaqs of MAME. GameFaqs is a walkthru/strategy guide website. However the current Strategy Guide for the MAME page looks to be a "Howto for Dummies". Maybe I use gamefaqs.com differently than everyone else?

No, you don't use gamefaqs.com differently. I think perhaps this page would put things in better context: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/MAME

That's an excellent start on a Wiki. Already learned a few things I didn't know about the support files.
