For windows 2000 and windows xp (Xp Faster to install)I think it's just a preference 'cause it's the same kernel..

Just install the ATI drivers and the tv will be detected as an second monitor..

For the resolution i would recomend an 640x480 but it does not really make an difference on a tv (I didn't notice bettwen 1024x1080 and 640x480 on my tv when im using it to watch movies or play games..)

And well the mameversion If your pc is enought recent (1 ghz minimum..) I would recomend to keep the latest version because less bugs in games.. And more games support !

So That's it !..

i believe in windows xp, 800x600 is the lowest that you can go.  i could be wrong though.

If you Right-click on the desktop-->properties-->settings-->advanced-->Adapter

you should see a button that says "List All Modes..."

It will let you choose lower res than 800x600.
