Title: Help me Name my MAME.... cabinet.
Post by: Odonadon on March 19, 2003, 12:14:13 am: Okay guys, after finding the B-Box project, I've decided to rename mine from O-BoX. However, I have NO CLUE what to rename it. Here's the best picture I have of it at the moment:

It's primarily blue, with white racing stripes. Has chrome T-molding, and a 10 button Control Panel. I went with the Shelby Cobra motif.

Anyone have any ideas? Be careful with using absurd names - I'm likely to use them :)

Post by: MrToasty on March 19, 2003, 12:33:31 am: Reminds me of a Shelby Cobra (I guess it should from your description :)) and the Shelby version of the Viper. Maybe something to do with Rally? I can hear it now - "It looks like my MAME cabinet is tearing ass around the house!"

or how about Mame Rocket...

At any rate I would try to theme something around vehicles/racing as many have pointed out the racing stripes..

Post by: CthulhuLuke on March 19, 2003, 04:25:33 am: If you put a spoiler on it, I shoot you. Umm.. a good way to try to think up names, is go to like www.dictionary.com then look up their thesaurus, then think of words that you think fit your cabinet. I'd say:
Fast, Speed, Race, various types of racing stuff.
Then for the second part, look up box, cabinet, arcade, game and see what kinda combinations you can come up with.
Remember that the strongest names are usually the ones that keep the syllabals in the words pretty close to each other, and a name will sound much stronger if the first letter is either the same or somehow rhymes with it.
Example would be if you just named it Fast Mame, because both words are short, it sounds decent, but because they don't sound alike or have any similar syllabals, it's weak. Also, fast is a very basic word, and people love big words. So if you had something like The Rapid Mame Machine, the mame machine go together nicely, the rapid keeps the subject intact.
Just some suggestions, if I think of any cool names, I'll tell ya.

No, they don't as a matter of fact. That was one concern of mine after I completed the painting. But from where you stand when playing the game, you can't see them. Not exactly sure why. I'll do some scientific investigation sometime tonight :).

And Rampy, I'm thinking of calling it "*shrug*" now :)

Keep them suggestions coming. When I used thesaurus.com. I ended up with Buggy Logia. I'm thinking that's not the best route :)

The Space Invader - on account of how much space it takes up

I went with the first one, but the second one's all yours for the low licensing fee of $10,000! ;)
