the problem at first was i didn't have the jumper plug on the usb prongs. now i got that figured out, and it was working fine, just had to grease the ball. so i opened up the ball greased it up, and upon plugging everything back in, it was "usb unrecognized" all over again.

Did you plug it into the same USB port? Don't ask me why, but Windows seems to want to load new drivers when you plug USB devices into different ports.

yes. i'm really trying not to format for i just have, and it took like 2 hours a back-up dvd to dump onto the fresh hardrive. basically we're talking d/l 68 gigs of games off of burned dvds if this is the case. took like 3 days last time. plus if it's not guaranteed to work afterwards, it's a total waste of my time.
