I ran this last year and it went pretty well. Rules are simple. Choose one game each week. Pick the winner. If you are wrong, you are eliminated from the game. Last man standing wins. I will keep track of everyone's picks each week and display them by editing this post.
A pick must be made every week. Failure to make a pick results in elimination. Picks should be posted in this thread, so that people have the ability to double check my work.
You cannot pick a game with the same team two weeks in a row. If you pick the Rams over the Titans in week 2, you cannot use either the Rams game or the Titans game in week 3.
Entrant pool closes an hour preceding the game you want to pick. That means that if you want to pick Thursday's game this week you must do so at least an hour before the game starts. Forum timestamps will be binding.

I'll take Philly over Green Bay in week 1.
-
UMM, Philly isn't playing Green Bay in week 1....
-
My bad, typed the wrong thing. Chicago over Green Bay. I originally was going to take Philly over Houston but I want the option of picking Houston to lose next week...
-
Patriots over Bills.
Glad to see this is back. Maybe I'll make it past week 1 this time.... ;)

Seahawks over the Lions

Philly over Houston

Carolina over Atlanta

What the hell..... since I'm a homer..
Fins over Pitt

Arizona defeating San Francisco
And Chad ... The Packers will "surprise" the Bears this weekend with the Lambeau Field Edge that has been missing the past two years.

I'll take Carolina over Atlanta this week.....

Isn't Rothlesslesslessdude out this week? I have no idea who his backup is right now.

Kordell?
Charlier Batch?
Tomczak?
Hmmm...wonder what the line is? Fins minus 4? ;)
-
I saw that they just re-signed St Pierre... not sure if they announced it or where he falls in the QB depth chart. Always good to see him stick around, my brother played with him in HS.
EDIT: NFL.com says Batch is the backup. Where is Kordell now?

EDIT: NFL.com says Batch is the backup. Where is Kordell now?
Kordell went to the Bears three years ago and continued to be terrible. He is out of the league now.
-
NFL.com says he was on the Ravens for the last two years.
-
I'll take Broncos over Rams

Batch is the backup this weeka and during both his starts last year he went 2-0. He
doesn't totally suck. Where's Kordell ? hmmmm... who cares, the guy cried on the
sideline cause Cowher yelled at him. At least go the the locker room and wheep.
-
I've never laughed as hard at an NFL moment as I did during a game when the commentators were making a huge deal out of Kordell's connection to the fans... as the Steelers were walking into the tunnel at halftime... and a fan reached over the railing, dumped his beer on Stewart, and yelled "retire you <effing> <homo> we suck because of you".

I suppose I have to defend my title, huh?
Seahawks over Lions

Boo!!!!!!!!!!

So, does this mean you take Houston over Philly?

Ha, I'm not that dumb. But I do want the Texans to win.

Week 2: Bengals over Browns
-
Colts over the Texans for week 2
-
Damn. Pats barely beat the Bills and the Seahawks squeek by the Lions. Unreal weekend. And both my fantasy teams sucked ass. :hissy:
Bears over Lions for week 2.
Can't go with the home team Colts if two others have already grabbed em. ;)

I blame AmericanDemon... that's the last time I copy off his paper.......

I'm the only one who picked 'em.
And I picked the Seahawks in two other "for-goofs" pools in the fantasy leagues I run! I can't believe the Lions looked as good as they did. I knew they were TONS better than last year, but I figured with a new coach, new system, new just-about-everything-but-the-real-problem Matt Millen, they weren't gonna compete in that game! :dizzy:
-
I'm the only one who picked 'em.
I did too, but haven't posted in the thread yet, just made the game post edit.
My pick: Colts over Texans

Yikes, I wanted to pick the Chargers over the Raiders, but I had ZERO confidence in Phillip Rivers. Oh well, two years in a row I got knocked out in the first week. :P

Rivers doesn't have to be good. He just has to hand the ball off to Superman. Superman puts a monster day on the Raiders every time.

The Texans' schedule is brutal.

I'll take Baltimore over Oakland

Tough matchups this week. With Oakland on a bye and not being able to pick their opponent, I am going with the next worst team....Tennessee.

Although I want 'em to win every week, I'm a realist. The Iggles D, combined with the crappy secondary of the Pack.....I just don't see it ending well. And I H-A-T-E the fact that McKenzie's team won last night. If that jag would fall on his face every play, I'd still laugh EVERY time.
Woodson, Collins, Manuel, Carrol? Heck, at times, even HARRIS looks like he's got feet of stone out there! Lemme buy those first four players from ya. I expect change back from my dollar. At least Hawk showed (to me why we drafted him this last week.
:dunno
-
Hey Drew...
I know I might be a homer here, but I'm still hoping for the best. Philly does have a good "D" but their secondary is badly beat up and a couple of starters might not go. I'm hoping te O-line will give Brett good protection, I think he can pick them apart... BUT ...the Pack will have to start out fast and not fall behind in the game at all.
I know are secondary is looking like crap. Manuel and Collins cant cover anyone so far this year, they arent even close in their coverage. I agree with you on Hawk, he looks like the real deal. He is very fast, can hit and tackle very well and he plays pass coverage better than our safeties! GO PACK, but if they fall behind early, forget it!!!

The Pack made a huge mistake trading Gado.

Pats looked very good at Cincy. Fins may be the worst team in the league, but Raiders and Titans are giving them a fight to pick first in the draft.
-
I was mostly impressed by the second tier blocking the Pats were showing on offense. Without Graham plowing guys over Maroney ends that game with 50 yards at the most. Troy Brown threw a couple of really nice ones too.
-
The Pack made a huge mistake trading Gado.
Just curious, why do you say that? Morency ran for almost 100 yards last week and Gado has done nothing for the Texans.
-
Because I think Gado is extremely talented. The first team that finds a way to bring that out will see a top tier running back.
Morency ran for 99 yards on 26 carries. That's a sub 4.0 average. It's decent.
Look at the 12/11 game last year. Gado ran for 171 yards on 29 carries. Sure, it was the Lions, but he also put up 100+ on the Falcons and the Eagles last year. The guy is from Africa and basically brand new to football. He has a LOT to learn about the complexity of run blocking, which is his biggest problem... he will eventually pick that up. The Packers just weren't willing to wait long enough.
IMO, the Packers traded away high potential for immediate lesser return.
-
I don't believe Gado was picking up the offense quickly enough either. Sounds like a simple scheme, but he wasn't showing a good understanding of it. Morency is better suited to the offense, as well as being a young player.
It was simply a matter of them not liking Gado for the type of offense they're going to be trying to run.
I agree that in the right system, he's going to be a damn fine RB. The Texans can't block well enough to keep their QB from being killed, so I doubt that's the right system. It may be something they're getting used to with Kubiak, though.

Damn, I just got back in from out of town. If I'm not too late, I'll go with Bears over Cardinals. If I missed the cutoff for the pick, I understand.

The rules say an hour before the game you want to pick... so you're still good, but can only pick that game.
-
W00t, new champion guaranteed this year.
Curse you, instant replay!
-
Well, at least the replay got it right.
Thank god the Bucs didn't turn out to be the only winless team in the league this week. That would have been embarrassing.
-
HOW ABOUT THOSE BEARS!!!!!! Grossman was awful, defense was great.
Leinart looked pretty good.
-
Week 7 Colts over Skins

Jags over Texans

I know are secondary is looking like crap. Manuel and Collins cant cover anyone so far this year, they arent even close in their coverage.
I forgot all about this! I gained so much respect for whoever made the decision to cut Carrol in the middle of the week! That turd should have been cut after last season's holding/hands-to-the-face/trip-'em/whatever method of defense he resorted to. The only thing he didn't try was tying the laces together of the person he was about to be burned by!
To me, the verdict is still out on Thompson, but I like McCarthy as a coach. He's still got to live with the crap Sherman handcuffed him with, but next year should be better unless Thompson turns out to be as bad as Sherman, and 2 years from now, we should be looking pretty decent again (and the Bears should be starting to slide).
Only thing I haven't liked from McCarthy is him not putting Rodgers in earlier in that blowout to the Eagles. 5 minutes to go, down by a brazilian, and Favre is still out there? :dunno Maybe he had him in there for more "practice" with the new scheme, but damn, isn't that what preseason's for?
-
I'm one of Favre's biggest fans outside of Wisconsin... but even I will say that at this point, Rodgers needs to be getting game time. They are stunting the team's near future for the sake of preserving the end of its past by giving Favre all of the snaps. I know Favre presents a better chance to win today than Rodgers but in games like that blowout, Rodgers needs to play.
Maybe Rodgers isn't the guy they expect to succeed Favre.

Philly over Bucs.

Thought about that game but with the sieve of a run defense that they have combined with Clinton Portis, it made me nervous.
-
In Indy, the Colts' defense is pretty much irrelevant. Always has been. They only lose in Indy to the Patriots.
-

They don't have Edge to fumble at the goal line against the Pats now. They need to find another way to lose...
-
They will. They always do.
My favorite moment of every NFL season is the Manning Face. That is the face of contempt for his teammates that Peyton Manning displays every time they get knocked out of the playoffs. The outrage that his teammates have failed him yet again and clearly shows how superior he believes himself to be.
Yet he can't win what matters.
That always makes me laugh long and hard.
-
Damn, second week in a row I do this to myself. Wish I had a gimme like last week ::)
I'll go with Cowboys over Giants.
-
Could be worse, last year I eliminated myself by forgetting to make a pick at all. IIRC, that's how abrannan won the last week.
That Bucs/Eagles game was awesome. I hate the Eagles and especially McNabb. I'll never understand why the media calls him such a "warrior" whenever he starts puking and wears out. There are ~100 players on either team that aren't throwing up and completely out of gas inside 60 minutes, many of them 100lb heavier than McNabb.

Jags over Texans

YRC, It's also how I won Fantasy Football two years ago, too many people forgetting to rotate out players on their Bye weeks.
-
Yeah, it's why I'm at or near last place in the Yahoo leagues I joined. Or I'll take Steve Smith out for his bye and not put him back for a month.

Actually I think it was me that forgot to make the pick. No excuses though; good luck to all that are left.

I looked back and you're right... you were the last eliminated, by DQ. I was the second to last eliminated... also by DQ.
No one has been DQed this year. Let's keep it that way.

Congrats, Sportswizdan! Your well timed bribe to Ben Roethlisberger to get him to throw 4 picks paid off!

Congrats... I wasn't paying enough attention when I made my pick and made a dumb one. ;D
