Title: Daphne & Lazarus
Post by: Chazz on March 18, 2003, 01:04:42 pm
Now that I've gotten Lazarus going, (sweet!  ;D) my next step is to get Daphne going.  I've read the info on adding a new emu, but I'm lost.  Can anyone give me some tips or pointers?

Thanks!!

Lazarus says 'No Games Available' in Daphne.

Do I need the 'Daphne v0.99.5a' dat file from clrmame in the list generator folder?

...and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with 'name Daphne's frame files to match the zipped rom's names and search for them.'

Thanks!!

name them after the folders you put the roms in

and point lazarus to your framefile directory (usually the root of daphne) NOT your roms directory as you are searching for the framefiles

You need BOTH ROMS and Video.   The ROMs are easy, as you can find them on the net.   The VIDEO is the hard part.  You have three options:

1) Buy a Daphne Compatible LaserDisc Player, and the correct interface cable, plus a game laserdisc, and connect to a TV.   When going this route, make sure the disc you get is compatible, as there are both NTSC and PAL Versions of LDs.   This option is recommended for non-overlay games only (i.e. Dragons Lair, Space Ace, and Thayer's Quest).

2) You can buy the Dragons Lair DVD-ROM, or 21st Century DVD-Video version (not the original DVD-Video or CD-ROM version), from digital leisure, and download the DVD2Daph program.   I heard that Space Ace DVD-ROMs also work.

3) You can get an LD Player, a Game Laserdisc, and a video capture card, and capture the video from the Disk yourself in MPEG1 or MPEG2 format, and audio in OGG Vorbis format.     This option will work for all daphne games, and is recommended for ones that support overlay.

Note: The video size can range from 400MB to over a Gigabyte, depending on quality and resolution (and some games require certain resolutions of video).

They post (or used to post) the video in alt.binaries.emulators.misc.. got several games' videos there.. there is also a channel on mirc (#videolasergames or something stupid like that) EfNet that was distroing them for awhile.

But be prepared to download.. most of the vids are > 1 CD and have to be compressed/split.  I haven't actually tried any of them, but they're probably not nearly as good quality-wise as the original LDs, either (there were some people whining about it back when I got them).

Glad you got it running.... I didn't want to scare you right off the bat but there is an advanced method of setting up daphne using the generic command line wrapper. If you use the wrapper then you can setup game specific dipswitches for each game.  If you are interesed contact me and I'll send you a copy of my lconfig.ini to look at.

I would like to do this... can you post that ini or slide a copy to celamantia@comcast.net?

Thank you!

Rather than email it to you here is my entire lconfig.ini for daphne.......

The dipswitches look cryptic, but if you set the settings via daphne loader and then check the "show command line" swtich it prints out the settings and you can just copy and paste it into the config....

(lconfig starts in next reply)

Thanks, Howard!  Now it's on to creating a Visual Pinball DAT file...

I also need to figure out what my WinCab jukebox doesn't like about Lazarus.  If Lazarus has been run on my machine at any time, WinCab Jukebox locks up after displaying the jukebox until I reboot...
