I am disassembling my inherited coin door for cleaning and likely rewiring.
What are these things for? Are they used to somehow increment the coin counters? Do I even need them if I am not using coin counters?
-
its either a autoswitch or some magnet related thing..... the actual thing(white bulge thinger part atleast) just is really a electro magnet..... maybe might help you know what it does, and whats its for:S

Aren't those used to keep the machine from taking coins when it's not powered up? If the magnet isn't on coins go straight through to the coin return, I thought...

yes thats a lockout coil, used as chris has stated on video cabs and not used anymore since the use of electronic coin mechs which of course do not accept coins when without power

Those are "lockout coils" on your Coinco brand coin door. They come in different voltage ratings. They energize when the power is on to allow the coin chute to accept coins. When no power is applied they block a coin ("lockout") from mechanically being accepted and kick it out to the coin return. This was a very handy feature leftover from the pinball machine days. I wish these coils would make a comeback.

Thanks for the info. I guess for my purposes, I'll just leave them out. If people want to put tokens in my machine while its off, fine by me. At least they won't get lost that way.
Hmmm. Maybe I'll switch that to a $0.25 mech instead. :)

If you are not going to use the lockout coils, you'll need to physically tie the armature plate out of the way so that the coin chute can accept coins.
