im having some promblems running mala..
the first started wwhen i used the new mame108 and roms..as soon as it started it would give me a error message saying"mala has incountered a promblem and need to close.and it would lock the taskbar and screen then i would have to repeatly keep clicking mala in order to get it to run so i could exit and get my task bar back and when it did run the games wouldnt work...so i was think it was a mame promblem so switch to 106 and deleted mala and went to start up a fresh new copy and it gave me the same error message right after the splash screen!
keep in mind this is right on start up no config's yet i would really like to use mala it a nice app i just cant get it to run any ideas or suggesting why this could be going on????
-
When you deleted Mala, did you delete the entire directory? First, I'd try updating to the newest version of Mala (1.0 RC7a) if you haven't yet; I think you need RC7 at least to work with Mame 1.07 or higher. And make sure you delete Mala.ini before you install the new version.
-
i deleted the entire folder..and such and i downloaded mala the newest one, with the newest update also..
thanks alot for the help guys

No, you can also use an older version.
@squire
Please have a look at the file mala.exe.log in the MaLa dir and post the error message from this file.
-
Weird-o-rama ???
-
thats the strange thing i dont even have a error log in the mala folder...im sorry i cant be more specific but that exactly what happen...splash screen, straight to a error message to no task bar i re download mala a few times and tryed that but no luck...any ideas? this happen before?
-
I had the exact problem happen. You should have something in the mala.exe.log. though. I had a report each time it wouldn't load. I deleted everything and started from scratch and was able to get it working by the third try. Are you running XP if so make sure all of the updates are current because that was the only thing I did diffrent between the second and third try and it finally worked and has worked great ever since.

This is True (see attached Pic)
MaLa generates this file on Errors. I know this as I have been involved in beta testing in the past
SWINDUS loves to squash bugs ;D ;D
I have never had a problem like this so I can't help
Have a another look please please . mala.exe.log

i must be going out of my mind because i dont have a error log at all..lol
-

Ahh I'm sure it's there. I experianced the same prob once
In windows folder options change the view so you can see file extensions. Windows may not be displaying it fully

first this window pops up..1
then it closes and locks the task bar..2

This comes up a bit. Mame32 users using a FE to launch finding problems. (do a search on this forum)
Take MaLa out of the equation
What happens when you launch games from a command prompt?

What happens when you launch games from a command prompt?
i havent tried command line. im still going through my first mala set up via the long and extensive doc found in another post from a while back.
the error left. which is good. i havent checked my entire game list yet... but i did notice that my marvel super heroes clash of the champions or whatever its called doesnt work anymore... same with some of the other vs games... some work but not all.
-
ok im trying to narrow it down to the promblem heres what i did...
i reinstalled windowsxp home edition...
installed the nforce410 chipset driver
installed all the windows updates...
installed net fram 1.1 and 2.0
installed the geforce 6100on board 84.21 whql drivers.
then creative 24 bit drivers...
launch mala for the first time and bang there that damn error message.
im not sure whats causing this im thinking now it could be a hardware problem!!!
heres what im running...
amd athlon 3000+
biostar t force 6100
512 corsair vaule select
80gig wd sata hdd
what could it be swindus....iluve mala it works for me on a few other systems and im really hope i can get this promblem figuerd out.

You must do. You certainly are persisitant (I bit like I am) :)
So MaLa works fine for you on other PC's ehh?
OK Guessing now ??? (Swindus may have a better idea)
I have a similar hardware set-up as you so.....
MaLa does not need the .net stuff. Try removing that?
-
ok finally got a error log here it is
2006/08/30 02:07:25.45 Error: Object Class: TfrmMain, Object Function: ReplacePattern_selected, Exception Class: EAccessViolation, Exception Message: Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004A188C in Modul 'MaLa.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 00000004

swindus where are you, :D
-
Chill, dude. Swindus has a life and he's on the other side of the ocean. You can't expect instantaneous service from someone that's doing this for free.

i have a question.
why is my project 64 having a hiccup?
when i load it through mala i get a mystical " attempt to load file failed" then it opens project 64 in a seperate window where i can load the rom normally without mala.
what is this and how do i fix it? :banghead:
fceultra loaded. zsnes loaded. project64... it wants tea and crumpets. :censored:

You need to make sure the emulator will launch games from a command line before trying to launch via a FE .
Have you tried using UNCLET's Guide? It features project 64 launched from MaLa.?
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=56010.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=56010.0)
-
ive been using that guide.
thus my confusion.
-
ive been using that guide.
thus my confusion.
To the letter?
-
yup. to the letter.
for everything except the visual pinball stuff because i have to check whether i have the tables and the roms or just the roms.
so that part is incomplete.
everything else. followed exactly... so the error confuses me.
especially so beecause when the error happens, mala doesnt close. the project 64 window closes, reopens without a running rom in windows and will let me onpen the rom without mala....
very very strange. many hours last night trying to fix it. :banghead: i didnt do so well. will try again tonight.
-
Oh Dear..
Sounds like a Question for UNCLET if he is not too busy?
-
toe: Did you execute the Project64 game rom via the command prompt to see if the game can be loaded that way? I understand you can load it via the Project64 menu, but how about via the command line?
-
holy thread hijack..batman :P

Have no fear. Swindus is aware of your plight (we chatted yesterday) unfortunately time is not on his side as he is on a Business trip this week
He has not abandoned his loyal users ;)
MaLa work comes in big waves (in between his work commitments) . Soon you will be complaining that there are so many MaLa updates you can't keep up ;D
-
i had hoped that the error would be me... but i just checked the command line again.
started project 64. no problem. :badmood:
sorry for the hi-jack, Squire. i had thought i would be a qquick fix and then pop out quickly. didnt think i would still be having issues.
-
oh was just playing toe,its no big deal.... ;D
-
toe:
1) Start a new thread with a nice title so Swindus can get involved
2) Post your command line syntax which works in a command prompt window
3) Confirm your MALA configured command line text is the following
%path%\%rom%.%ext%
4) IS the game you are starting in ZIP format?
5) Did you install Project64-v1.6 and then replace the EXE with the v1.6 hacked EXE file?
6) Are you installing MALA and everything on the C: drive (or some other drive letter)?
7) In the MALA install directory, if the "MaLa.exe.log" file exists, then delete it and try to start the game via MALA again, then after it does not work, then post the "MaLa.exe.log" file here for us to look at
PS: I have been real busy lately and will be going away for about a week on vacation in a couple of days ...... so I can try to help you out before then if I can ...... not sure I can, but I will try.
-
will do that tomorrow evening.
tis late and bed time.
will also post some additional questions i have.
thanks

After a few hours searching the net and stumbling my way through German i have learnt
1 It may be related to a file in the snap directory not being a png file. I am at work so cant check mine but i think i have th snap.zip file in there as well as the unzipped png files
2 It may be I have not installed my soundcard
3 I need to learn German
If there is a known solution could someone please post here
regards

Please tell when this error occurs:
While scrolling in the list?
On createing the main game list?
...
-
i wish i could get to that part.
it says it when i try to run mala. I get booted out before the main screen
-
just a thought........... since mala does not actually install to any dir other than the mala one is it possible to get a full set of mala files from someone to copy to my mala dir. I would then alter the mala ini to show first run =1 and then change paths accordingly?
or would this not work either?
-

It can't hurt :)

You don't have to do that to change paths. If you have a mouse connected just right click screen and select options
-
well i am willing and able to download, or recieve by email or anything
hell i would take snail mail

Dude
You really should answer SWINDUS question when you can.
Please tell when this error occurs:

On createing the main game list?

When I disable my soundcard in the device manager and then start MaLa, I find the following in the MaLa log file:
2006.09.14 17:23:22.78 Error: Object Class: TfrmMain, Object Function: ReplacePattern_selected, Exception Class: EAccessViolation, Exception Message: Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004A188C in Modul 'MaLa.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 00000004
So I would assume that something is wrong with your soundcard installation.
-
Possibly add this finding to the Mala Help text error pages?
-
Done.
-
PM sent :)
-
Sound card installed ------- MALA is up and running

:applaud:
