Picked up a bunch of nice freebies today..
4 change machines {2 for parts, 2 complete.}

And the best part:
Some weird redemption game.. The idea is to stop the timer at EXACTLY 10.000 seconds for tickets.
Lame game, but it's in really good shape, functional except for the missing button.
I'm thinking it would make a really good Jukebox.. What do you guys think?

Overall I'm pretty happy for a free haul within 20 minutes of home. :applaud:

Looks cool.

What a pretty machine for such a dumb game :)
-
Just goes to show how a good presentation can make anything look better. Jukebox, or maybe even a mame machine. Cool :)

I thought that too but wasn't going to rain on his parade.

No raining required. As I already said.. LAME game, possibly a good jukebox.
:)

The design is cool from a coin op perspective...
"How can we get people to put money in a game that is guaranteed to be as short as possible?"

If it was a short as possible, it would have been 1 second. :laugh2:
I used to do that with the stopwatch function on my watch to pass time in school.

Ohhhhh A Sinistar mame..
Anyone else see the resemblance?

and good score on the change machines... i have been looking for one for 2 years now...... a must for any good arcade...
and if you want to be rid of one... and the shipping isnt to high i would be happy to give one a home

Yeah, I think it would be an awesome jukebox.
And I gotta find me a change machine someday-if only to show my kids what my life was like at one time, pumping all of my allowance into arcade machines, having to decide if I wanted a candy bar or another round of Robotron, begging my mom to let me clean out her old purses for all the spare change she dropped in them and actually having a motivation to do some chores.
Come to think of it, maybe that's what their entire generation is missing-a reason to work. Hmmm...will have to think on that one a bit more.
-
Why are they missing a reason to work? My kids do their chores just fine.
-
They do the chores, but no real motivation behind it. "Yeay I have money so I can buy...uhh...yeah". Everything entertainment wise at that age level is expensive enough that, unless they're getting $20+ at a shot, they don't really have motivation "Wow, I could save up for three months and buy one game!"
Compare it to "I can do my chores for the week, get my allowance and go spend five hours playing games and still have enough to buy a couple candy bars".
Like I said though, still mostly random thoughts on the subject.
-
The way we do it is I still buy the games for them. Much because I want to play them myself, but my kids are still young too. They can't play them, though, unless they earn the time. They don't earn money. My 5 year old actually walks up spontaneously and asks us for chores to do because he wants to play Lego Star Wars. Can't beat that!
-
A bit off topic but I would love to see more pics of the mustang ;D
-
Yeah, that works pretty good at 5, but once they start hitting 10+ the motivation changes. Unless you continue to structure every second of their day. I mean, my kids still play games, but I know once I get this arcade finished, I'm going to have another thing to use as a motivational tool for them. I've already wired in a kill switch for the coin buttons on the CP and am getting the coin door wired up and have plenty of tokens on hand. While I'm sure I'll give them better rates on tokens than 4/$1 (and the money will all get back to them eventually, but it will be set aside by me for bigger purchases since they tend to nickle and dime their cash away on random crap now-it's gonna be fun to take my son to buy his DS Lite and have him realize that it's his money that he's actually spending, not mine), it's going to be one more tool that will help them realize that there is a need to work for the things they want in life-a lesson that is one they really need to start learning now so they don't end up totally spoiled. We've always kind of taught it, but I've had a few good years working and have been willing to buy more things for them lately (though many time it's as much for me as for them-I love the idea of my house being the place where all their friends want to hang out, let's me keep tabs on them without having to seem like the overprotective parent, plus, I like toys, too), and I'm getting worried that they might be getting a bit used to it.
I like being able to spoil my kids, but I also value the lesson I think this can help me teach them. I'll be able to still spoil them silly, but they'll also realize that work has it's rewards above and beyond what I'm otherwise willing to do for them.
And /seconded on the more Mustang pics

Super sprint! What a perfect game for the garage ;D
Awesome garage, btw :notworthy:
-
That redemption game looks like an old Timex display from Sears I saw a while back.
-
That 65 convertible is a fine example of how nice a resto-mod can turn out.
Great job, I am very jealous.
