I believe the answer you seek is here
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm)

NOTE: It is not a good idea to let it auto log into you only administrator account. I have seen a few posts here of users getting into trouble. There is a chance that if windows crashes you may not be able to log into your PC. So create a diffrent account (with or without admin privileges) to auto login (as I do) and all is good.

Futher Tips can be found:

Use TweakUI - that is the best solution I have seen, plus you have a bunch of other configuration options available to you...

I second that.  TweakUI (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx) is very useful for this.

Another great thing you can use it for is to disable autoplay for all your drives easily.  This gets around people being able to run stuff from USB drives without your knowledge (http://www.darkreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=95556&WT.svl=column1_1).
