Hello, I use a very old program called sortinfo. It uses listinfo to build it's database. Since 106, xml2info was removed so I cannot convert the database to listinfo. Does anyhone know how to make an old listinfo.txt file with 108?
Thanks for your help,
Southpaw

No, nor am I sure why so many of you want to use 107/108 when nearly nothing beneficial to cabinet use has been added. I'm either missing something or many of you are gluttons for punishment.

Oh yes, dual screen support, more accurate classic drivers and real output support are useless and have no benefit to a cabinet. Do you actually read the features in the whatsnew?

Howard apparently can't read the word nearly nor understand the concept of who is using these versions......mostly newbies not using any of the new stuff who would have their particular needs better served by dropping down a few versions.

No I can read it man, this aren't minor things these are major additions to the core and therefore the term nearly doesn't apply.
Even if you are a newbie you will eventually have to upgrade to at least .107 as things as standard as artwork files won't even work on the older versions of mame as soon as the official artwork page is updated. Some games like gholly ghost are virtually unplayable without art files.
I don't know where you are getting this newbie stuff from this thread either. Anybody that knows what sortinfo is, has been around long enough to have used it (it's been obsolete for some time) and understands that the lack of the listinfo converter is their problem is definately not a newbie.
Apparently you don't understand the concept of making comments relevent to the discussion at hand. ;)

It could be argued that the easiest way of getting a Mame setup working from scratch is to use the latest Mame. For example rom burners etc. always distribute latest sets, and not always old ones. This part explains why a lot of newbs use latest Mame versions.
And the whole argument of what version people should be using is pretty subjective, and not really any ones business imo!

Thanks for backing me up Howard about the whole newbie thing. Yes, many advantages to updating. I usually update with every release, but it is summer and I got a few behind.
I am actually getting ready to start my 10th cab so newbie just doesn't fit....
Thanks for all the info gang;D.......(minus brophog)
FYI-usually newbies try to steal a thread....

How many questions have been asked by frustrated newbies since 107 came out? A ton. Very relevant to helping those that just want to get the thing set up. I'm not implying anything about the originator of this thread nor meaning to hijack it.
