I am getting an IPac4, does it make any difference if it is a PS2 or USB??
-
No, not really. Andy claims the USB is capable of being faster, but I run PS/2 on mine and you can definitely tell a significant difference between the ipac's speed and that of a keyboard. I wouldn't hesitate to play any input critical game on it.

Which is faster: Ipac or keyboard?

Sorry, ipac.

I went for a PS2 one aswell.
I made my choice after studying the Ultimarc FAQ / Help sheets. It seemed to me that most of the IPAC problems (shouldn't be any of course, but if you're unfortunate enough to find one) were via the USB interface!
My buttons and joystick appear spot-on to me, so the speed is perfectly fine, even if USB is claimed to be theoretically faster...
In answer to your question I'd say probably no difference as far as gaming is concerned, but note though that some newer PC motherboards don't even have PS2 sockets anymore!

Although this issue is rather specific and probably doesn't effect most of us, it does bring to light a specific difference between the two that I never thought of or was previously enlightened to..

Q: The 'quit executable' button works fine when I have the quit delay set to zero. Why when I set the delay to 2 seconds or more it never works?
A: Are you using a key combination to initiate the 'quit executable' key? If yes, are you using an IPAC board? If yes, does it have a PS2 or USB cable?
I've recently found that IPAC boards using a PS2 cable tend to only send a single keystroke when a key combination is held down. So if you hold down the SHIFT+CONTROL keys for instance, to send the ESC key as your 'quit executable' button, it only gets sent once and no keydown state is recognized, but if the IPAC is using a USB cable, then key combo does initiate a continuous keydown state for ESC. Which means that the quit delay option won't work for a PS2 cable IPAC because the key-combo isn't recognized as a continuous keydown state. To see whether a continuous keydown state can be maintained, hold down your key-combo in a program like notepad.
