Title: i-pac help
Post by: xcalibur on March 16, 2003, 01:15:32 am
Evening all,
I just registered and searched for my problem before posting this so no flaming...
I bought an i-pac 2 weeks ago and last night was the first time I was able to hook it  all up and test it. When I have the I-pac plugged into the PC and a keyboard plugged in the passthrough, it won't work. I'm running Win XP, it boots to the login screen and I can't type my password on the keyboard. Has anyone else run into this problem? I emailed Andy about it and he suggested that I unplug everything and try to boot it that way to see if it was bad wiring. even with just the keyboard plugged into the interface, it won't type.

Thanks, for your time,

First of all, what type of ipac?  USB or PS2?

So what I'm getting, is the keyboard won't type even if plugged directly into the PC?  Sounds like a bad keyboard.

Do you have another keyboard to try out?

no, the keyboard will type once I disconnect the intreface and plug it diectly into the PC. I noticed when I have the interface connected, the caps lock light will come on when the external kb is plugged in, but it still won't work.

Are you using USB?  If so, do you have the USB jumper set on the IPAC?

I'm using a PS2 connection and I've tried 3 different keyboards.

Maybe it's a bad ipac.  Sounds like the PS2 in port might be bad or have a bad connection to the main board.

Do the buttons and joysticks connected through the I-Pac work?

I suffered from this problem once as well. Found out I had something resting on one of the buttons. D'oh!

Might be worth double checking your wiring to make sure there isn't a short somewhere that's causing it.

Shorts in your wiring will cause this too..... in other words it's probably your fault, no offesense.  It happens to everyone at one time.

it was a bad ipac. Andy sent a new one and it works like a charm. he says there was a huge scratch all the way across the contacts. It may have occurred in the shipping. there were 2 joysticks and a crap load of buttons along with it.
