Title: New arcade vga card should i get the apg or wait for the PCIe ?
Post by: rlemmon on August 17, 2006, 04:20:24 am
Could someone tell me the main deference beetween the new arcade VGA PCie and apg cards. I want to get one when i get paid but I'm not sure which would be best. I wonder if the pcie will cost more than the apg ?
Thanks

My suggestion would be to get the one that your motherboard supports, unless you happen to have one of the very small number of boards that can support either.

The socket.

Bandwidth wise, even PCI is adequate enough for the needs of MAME at CGA resolutions.  Your video card has nothing to do with MAME performance, so buy the one that matches your motherboard, and not the other way around.

I would consider (if getting a new motherboard at the same time) to go pci-e version.  Mainly because you may want to play some 3d games and it has a better video card.

Thanks guys :) I didn't know what the difference was. I checked my mother board and it only supports pcie.
