I might be selling the two wico 8-ways in my Top Gunner cab in the near future. It would depend on what the going rate for them is...

Hi shardian.
As far as I know the WICOs are great for playing Robotron but not for putting them into an original Robotron panel.
The added picture shows you why. The Panel has two big holes where the stick fits in. The WICOs I know don't have this additional black cylinder around the stick shaft.
That black cylinder reaches through the hole in the panel (there's also a piece of wood under the panel!!) as you can see in this picture http://www.thludwig.de/pics/arcade/robotron/robotron_panel_1.jpg
If yours have it, I'd be happy to make a bid :)

That made me cry.

Ahhh...I learn something new every day...mine are not like that.
-
It looks to me like someone made the hole bigger to fit that joystick in there. Is that even a leaf switch stick? Any idea what kind of stick it is?

I was shocked, too when I first saw the cab :(
It doesn't have leafs, it has microswitches.....don't know if it is original or not.
I'm not sure, but the hole under that green ugly button on the right is the same size....they used some crap of plastic to make the button fit.
I searched thruogh different pictures for an original panel but I'm not sure if any of those is ???

I guess I have two WICO leafswitch sticks without the cylinder. I 've put one into that space where this stick was and it fits. Movement of the stick is perfect, too. But there is this huge gap around the shaft I'd like to avoid.
The other thing I could do is put some black rubber with cross cuts between the metal panel and the wood under it. So the stick can move but there is no visible gap....I will see.

Do you have dust washers for those wico 8-ways?

If you mean those black plastic discs around the shaft..no I don't have. Of course I have some from other buttons but if I find very thin rubber I would prefer this solution.....besides getting two (or one?) original stick.
I have emailed a german collector/trader. Recently he bought a container full of original stuff. He will "dig the pile" and see if he has one.
I'm planning to put a PC insode the cab that only starts an emulator with Robotron.
Getting the PCB set is nearly impossbile. The harness has been completely removed, too :(

Robotron uses wico 8-ways with the long shafted joystick. Under the cpo should be two metal plates> 4.5" square. The joystick dust cover goes under these.
I just purchased a set of the metal plates that were a reproduction run. I can give you the fellas email addy, not sure if he has any left though. They were 16.00 shipped for the set. I'll post a pick of them in a bit :)
Post a WTB on rgvac on getting a working boardset. Thats what i did and had 4 emails that same night, anywhere from 150.00 to 225.00 shipped. As for the harness you can do the same or put in an order to Bob Roberts and build it yourself. I did that with my Defender and it wasnt hard at all + it saved me money and everything was brand new :)
edit :) here>

Hi westell.
There are no metal plates at all, just wood under the panel.
The stick in the picture is mounted from under the panel and is fixed with four screws. The black cylinder reaches thruogh the wood and the panel.
As far as I know the european version is different from the US version.
Concerning the board set...what is rgvac ??? :lame:
edit: rec.games.video.arcade.collecting ??

Yes rgvac> rec.games.video.arcade.collecting :)
Dave has a good site on Williams. Also has a restore page on a UK robotron if you havent seen it yet. Is this what you have?

So....a Group.....hmm, why not give it a try. Thanks for the hint :)
I visited Dave's site some time ago and I think it's that sort of Robotron I have (can't look at it now, it's blocked here at work).
Here's mine: http://www.thludwig.de/robotron_restaurierung.htm
(somebody please kick ---my bottom--- that I continue translating the site into english ::) )

Sorry to revive a year-old thread, but those metal plates Westall posted and said are $16 a pair..... Aren't they the same thing that Bob Roberts sells for $2 each?

Luigi,
Are you sure your panel is original? All the other pics shown of panels have 2 sticks and no big green buttons. I don't know much about that game but it looks like someone may have modified that panel to suit their own needs.

That made me cry.
What in the name of Brie cheese is that. Whoever did that is surely going to hell.
I've got a Robotron myself, except it is in a rebuilt case and is currently joystickless. It's got the original board and marquee only. The tube may even be original too but I couldn't tell you for sure. It's been sitting there for years now. The screen comes on but there is a problem with the game itself since the game doesn't come on.

Noted. Saving picture for future reference.

Hi Bill :)
You are right.....of course, the machine had been converted.
Meanwhile I have (almost) finished my restoration

So I've been eyeballing that plastic piece there; how thick is it? I bet with a hole saw that piece could be reproduced with wood and painted to be identical to fit in a cabinet.
