Title: Video Settings For Latest Release Of Mame??
Post by: lettuce on August 13, 2006, 12:43:02 pm
Im using Andy's AVGA card on my TV set via scart, using this combo changes the TV into a Arcade Monitor. What video setting are best used with the latest version of mame, to keep everything authentic. I have selected GDI rendering rather than D3D, and this seems to give a flawless picture. is this what everyone else is using who has a TV with scart or an actually aracde monitor?? What other settings should you have ticked, i have to have throttle ticked other wise the games run way to fast, but other than that i have everything else unticked, also i have native or normal selected for screen. Are these all correct to keep everything authentic??

Use "-video ddraw -nohws -switchres" to get the best picture for an AVGA card.

Under the options menu go to 'default options', select DDraw from the drop down list (can't remember which tab it's under), uncheck the 'hardware stretch' checkbox, and check the 'switch resolutions' checkbox.

I haven't been too happy with the latest version of MAME.  The lack of 'clean stretch' means many of the games don't take up the full space of the monitor anymore (although I'm using a TV with svideo, not the equivalent of an arcade monitor).  I'm also pretty pissed about the discontinuation of high score support.  Looks like they finally axed it. :(  The 'save state' stuff which is supposed to replace it doesn't seem to work for me.  ::)

Have you tried the GDI option rather than DDraw?? This is what i am using at the moment, and to me looks very impressive, and authentic! it also fills out the whole screen, maybe you should give that a go?? The only problem with this is you can select triple buffering!!

I did try GDI and you're right it looked great, but for some bizarre reason the sound gets choppy and broken up with that option (even though the emulator is running at or well above full speed).  Have you not encountered that problem?  Maybe I need to try playing with it some more.

Um no, i never encountered anything like that, only problem i did come across was the games would run waaaayyy too fast. Found out i need to have the throttel tab ticked!!, doh!  you would have thought having throttle enabled would make the games run faster, but not in this case
