Title: WTB: Missile Cmd or Crystal Castles CP [NC - US]
Post by: lasersoup on August 10, 2006, 03:51:23 pm
I'd really like to find a Missile Command CP sans without cone buttons or even a trackball of similar size. I think Crystal Castles had a larger trackball, 4" or 4.5".  Any advice on trackballs is greatly appreciated too.

This stuff has been covered before but I don't mind starting it up again.

The trackball stuff, as far as I know no-one is reproducing the 4.5" trackball assemblies but this company has remakes of the ball and roller kits.

The same company also has the cone buttons.

You can probably buy an old broken trackball off of ebay and replace the ball and roller kits and then you will need to interface that with an optical encoder.  Haven't done that before so I can't be of much help there.

HappControls sells a 4.5" trackball:

Would that help?

I have a spare CC control panel, but the ball is 3" so probably no help to you.

That does help, thanks, it's a little out of what I can pay right now but if nothing else I can save up and get it later.

Let me know how much. For some reason I was thinking the CC had a bigger ball but it goes to show I'm a n00b. It might be a case of beggars can't be choosers.

Thanks again.

Well the panel with buttons is $30 and the trackball is gone, so I guess it's really no help to you.  Oh well, here is a free bump.

Get a price from Divemaster (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=7532) - he'll most likely do better than Happ's price...

Does Happ sell black trackballs?

If you are doing a Missile Command restoration, I highly recommend you get the black repro trackballs from ram-controls.com.  I have three (MC and Atari XO Football).  They are great quality.  I had some original trackballs polished in an attempt to restore them, but the repro balls are much nicer than even the restored orginals.

Ram-controls is going to make the repro trackball assemblies:

You can also find them on eBay occassionally.  The problem there is that the optical interface boards are sometimes dead.
