For a desktop controller with two joysticks and 9-10 buttons?
Is this the best/cheapest value?

Also do a search there are 50 threads debating this.

Who has time to search when you're posting perv pics of Hasselhoff.

Not sure how the Hasselhoff thing came in to play. ??? But I use this one, http://www.atomarcade.net/products.html, it is pretty cheap and has a trackball interface built in. The Keywiz and IPac are great units too. Really just depends on what you want to spend.

Actually an encoder is really helpful with making a cab. The thingie on the other hand... I am not sure. There is only 1 game that I know of that uses a thingie (Boong Ga Boong Ga 2 - Love Stinks, but I like the smell), but it is only a prototype that isn't even emulated yet.

We seem to be going in circles (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=56416.msg554628#msg554628) ... why don't you take some of that time you spend mocking, posting HoffPorn and calling people names and R E A D.
Once again, I refer you to Tiger-Heli's encoder guide:
http://www.mameworld.net/tigerheli/encoder/index.htm
The wiki is a good guide as well.
Cheers.

Best resource on the net. Right there. :notworthy:

I'd personally suggest the whozawatzit for your panel. The thingie can be a bit complicated, and the doohickey is just plain crap.
A lot of people have use the whatchamacalit with good results too though.
Hope that helps.

Is the thingie related to the thingamajig related to the doohickie.........

Is the thingie related to the thingamajig related to the doohickie.........
See this is what confused a lot of people. The thingie is basically a controller (see my second post), whereas the thingamajig is an encoder. So to answer you question...
The thingamijig is related to the doohickie which is a cousin (distant) of the whozawatzit.
It can be confusing if you don't know the jargon.

and in some parts they are also brother and sister

ok, jokes aside. ive used an ipac and a keywiz. the ipac costs a bit more but is programmable and has some useful default key combos using a shift function (for exit, etc) and it also has a keyboard pass- through. there is also the jpac which is much the same but plugs straight into a jamma harness. the keywiz i bought because it is very small and had a cheap and cheerful option of just soldering wires straight to the pcb (rather than screw thingos like on the ipac). the small size and the soldering part is important for my next project (a clue for bones). also its really cheap! no key board pass through though. since my next project is somewhat limited in what it will do the keywiz is fine.
they both seem to be well put together.
