Hej all!
I'm making an 8-WAY vertical machine, and so far I've come up with this list:
Commando
Galaga
Donpachi
DoDonPachi

Gemini Wing

Are there any other recomendations, things I've overlooked, or games I've missed

Are you looking for a list of all vertical games? or a just vertical we could recommend?
I would add to your list a least :
-all the Donkey Kong (Dkong Dkjr Dkong3)
-Pacman (pacman, misspacman , etc...)
-DigDug

What do you mean by that.? Do you not want games that are 4 on your list?
If that is the case scratch 'scramble' off your list

You're missing dozens of great shooters. Not even sure how many I can come up with just off the top of my head...
You have 1941, but are missing the rest of the series, 1942, 1943, 1944 Loop Master and 19XX War Against Destiny

Of the games mentiones, I've added Gorf! Ok, Gyruss seem to be just my
type of game, but the control seem somewhat strange..is it made for a spinner?
Regarding the 19xx games, I think one is enough. I don't want too many
99% similar games(yes, I know they are all similar:))

Gyruss was made for an 8 way. You kind of roll the controller around the outside to the direction you want to go. Give yourself time to acclimate to it, it's a great game.

TOK, I can fell that there are many more games in you!! :)
(Oh, so Gyruss is like Puzz Loop with a joystick? I always tend to think of those
like the old car games seen from above!..like championship Sprint and various
amiga and C64 games. Don't know what that kind of control is called)

Here you go. A full list of 8-way vretical games. Fire up mame and have fun.
(Note, rename the file extention to .xls for an excel file)

You have to change the file extension from .txt to .xls
Right click, then pick rename, then erase .txt and replace with .xls

Didn't work for me either... Saw 1941, 1942, 1943... The rest was just a bunch of numbers, mostly 6's.

That trick of changing the file extension only works for ascii files (text) not binary files.

Well I can switch it back and forth on my computer, so I figured everyone could do it.

It's the Forum software that kills it. I guess they don't want docs uploaded that could contain macros ?
