Title: my pc monitor display is out of alignment, help!
Post by: danny_galaga on August 06, 2006, 05:25:56 am

well, ive gone several weks without anything major changing on my pc. but today i was experimenting with display resolutions on my pc (testing something out for a future project) and now everything sits slightly to the left. arrgghhh! the right hand side is fine, but the left hand side starts at 'le' where file is and 'ne' where done is (on firefox, ie s 'done' is a bit more to the right so it isnt chopped off).

ive tried different settings but im pretty sure 1078 x 768 was what it was before. ive tried system restore as well and that doesnt seem to do anything either. i thought id show a screenshot but since it seems to be a display problem, the screenshots come out fine. any ideas?

Doesn't the monitor have a way to reconfigure the alignment of the picture?  I haven't seen a monitor in years that didn't let you correct for a tilted image.  If it really doesn't have any way to change it, then you could try setting it to different refresh rates (display properties/settings/advanced/monitor) you may get lucky and find one where the image is correct.

1078x768? Never heard of it. 1024x768 is a real resolution, however. If that wasn't just a typo, it might could be your problem.

What most likely happened is that when you went back to your usual resolution, it defaulted to a different refresh rate than you had before. You can either keep it at the refresh rate it is at now and readjust the picture with the monitor controls or you can switch refresh rates until you find the one you had before, which should bring the picture back to the way it was adjusted before.

To switch refresh rates go to Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Monitor tab.

ha! that was it! i changed it from 60hz to 70hz (supposed to be better for the eyes too, right?) oh, and yes, i meant 1024.
