Title: Meet Mean Streak
Post by: WillBurne on August 06, 2006, 02:30:41 am
Greetings to all!  ;D
Announcing the arrival of Mean Streak, my first cab. Plans are LuSiD' Arcade Flashback. I spent 8 hours on the build and around 4hours on the paint (first coat and 2 coats of primer) Control panel is assembled and awaiting the purchase of controls.
Anyway here's a few pics:

First Day.. Front Panel just resting in there as well as CP. CP top will be of 5/8 with plexi, I was just curious.

I immediatly dropped the plans monitor location by six inches, then decided to put an angle on it after the fact. Instead of drilling more exterior holes to accomodate the angle, I popped the two ears from the CP faux top. (scrap) They seemed to fit well. Perfect slope on tv montor face.

First coat. CP will have horzontal racing stripe along the base of the CP.
BTW, I picked up all 4 gallons (including primer) off the discount rack at Lowe's for $11.00US(there's one at every store)

Cab looks great! Quick question-

How did painting only take you 4 hours? I did a similar stripe pattern on my racer and I had to wait a couple days just to let the base coat dry.

Wish I'd known the way to paint my bartop in just a few hours ..instead of a couple of weeks. And I wish also that I had known beforehand that I's end up covering it with anything but paint ..  :-\

Thanks for the compliment.
To your question, I painted cab side with primer then went on to next side. After finishing 2nd side 1st side was dry.(primer goes on and dries quick) Repeat same steps for 2nd coat immediatly followed.
And to clarify I stopped let that dry overnight and then sanded the next day.(4 hours was hands on time)
I then drew some quick lines with my 4 foot level straight on the primer and taped. So there is no other base coat other than primer. The white stripes are the actual tape lines and now exposed primer.I still need 2 more coats on both sides which will probably take another 4 hours (including CP sides)
I'll keep updates going. I believe I'll have time to finish paint tonight. And very probably be installing the bar railing foot rest tomorrow.

The bar railing foot-rest is an EXCELLENT idea.   :applaud:

Yikes! Thats going to get messy quickly. Primer is porous by nature and will absorb all dirt, oil, etc.  It looks good now and it may stay nice, but it will eventually become nasty.

Yeah, they'll get painted with a white semi-gloss.
The orginal stripe was a 6inch band of orange surrounded by 3 inch grey lines. I decided to throw some grey inbetween the tape and ended up liking the results. So I must now paint the white as well.

Thanks! Stolen idea from an old Tapper machine; it's going to make a nice add-on. I've got some brass, but galvinized pipe(painted) is still an option.
