Yeah, Zinc's not in that guide.

Don't use the batch files from thread above anymore. There is a better way to run Zinc.
Use Howards wrapper and config utility from this site: http://www.oscarcontrols.com/lazarus/

Other downloads -> wrappers -> Generic command line wrapper 7.0
Other downloads -> misc utilities -> Zinc Control Config Utility 1.5 download

I'm using this programs on my cab and it works like a charme.

Yeah, I got it working using howard's wrapper as well...(howard set it up to work for zinc as default)

Don't ask me how...but I did get it working eventually...

If you are still having troubles after this weekend...I'll do what I can to help...but I can say that patience and expermentation is how I got it to work...and I am not very smart when It comes to FE's and emu setup...my only advice is to use the config files provided with howard's wrapper rather than the ones created by zinc or the zinc fe.

On a side note...I know that there are games that don't like to run when the sound is on...(like Soul calibur i think)...and other games that will not run at all when the sound is off...(like mr. driller)...

I created two different copies of zinc...one to play sound games, the other to play no sound games....Is that the best way to do it with mala?

...off topic but WHOA!

Are you telling me that Mr.Driller is emulated and playable now?

If so I've been out of the emu scene for far too long :(

That game is so excellent on Dreamcast!

I gotta look into this...

Every time I try running the zincconfig.exe on my cab, it fails with some weird runtime error 339 or something.  *shrug*

Did you try the wrapper program though? I don't think it is possible to run zinc from mala, or most frontends without the wrapper...

Sorry I have to giggle at this one a little.  My generic command line wrapper is literally several YEARS old.  Mala is fairly new.  My method has always been the preferred and easiest method, it's just everybody runs like a mexican when crossing the border when they hear the word "wrapper" and thus fe developers reccomend all these Rube Goldberg methods to launch zinc rather than the far easier method of dropping the wrapper into the zinc folder and pointing the fe to it.

Also users have the same issue.  I always see these posts about "well I have an easier way".  Well their "easier" way usually involves batach files, huge cfg files, shortcut files and any manner of difficult to follow hodge-podge.  I'm not one to do the hand-holding process, but I don't think I can make it any easier than "drop it in the folder and point to it".

Sorry to vent I just get a little ticked considering I've literally done all the work for everyone and yet after all this time some insist on either adding hardcoded support for zinc into their fes (which is stupid as then the fe has to be updated every single time zinc is updated) or using strange alternative methods to launch zinc.

Sorry I have to giggle at this one a little.

Was that a giggle of joy, dispair or a creppy evil giggle.?

Anyway:

I had some time to play and discovered I could launch Zinc from MaLa quite easily using Howards wrapper......  Once I understood the weird ways of Zinc

I posted here:

A giggle at how quickly people forget.

)p( and I literally started this show.  There weren't any windows fe's prior to us.  There weren't any methods to launch odd-ball emulators in a fe prior to me.  I'm not big on the whole "look at me look at me, I'm pimping my stuff" self-promotion anymore I just think it's a little funny that people still discover my stuff AFTER they've tried everything else.
