Well, imo...it's not coming along like I wanted....mainly because I have been lagging and bringing in new ideas as I go along.... Also, it's in my folk's garage and I don't live at home. Anyways....hopefully in the end it will run a dreamcast, a full Naomi arcade setup, and mame through a modded xbox. I should have about 10 different CP's...including 3 button, 4 button, 6 button, dreamcast driving, xbox driving, Dynamic Golf, Homemade Out trigger, World Series Baseball, and xbox/DC gaming CP's. Right Now it needs work. I am stuck without tools to make T-Molding slits on the bottom and edges. The front panel will fold forwards with driving pedal hookups on the inside. The top is so thin for easy removal. It will have to come off in order to rotate that 27" monitor, but then it should be able to go back on with speakers still there. It's kinda design as I go at this point, as new options keep coming into play.
at least...the things above are what I am hoping for, lol....here's what I've got.

that's about it for now....

Whoa, slow down. Multiple CPU's, multiple control panels, rotating monitor, modular who knows what. No wonder "it's not coming along like I wanted".
Trying to do it all on your first cab will increase the build time and significantly increases the likelyhood of you giving up all together. I'd recommend keeping it simple for your first one. Get something running, play with it, learn from it, then move on to the next.
Also, get it out of your parents garage and into your living room. A little sawdust never hurt a couch. Looking at the incomplete project everyday should inspire you to finish it.

My thoughts exactly!
..and just for that reason my 1st bartop is now almost done ;) More info on that soon..
Back 2 the topic: Cool ideas for the cab, ..now just DO IT :) !!

If I had a place for cab work in my apt., trust me, it would be here. If I had room in my game room for another cab after this one, I most likely would have bought another one before this one was done, lol. You guys are right though, I need to get on that. I am going tomarrow and putting in a good 3 hours on it....at least that's the plans.

put in some latches so the front door can pop out for a driving pedal setup, cut down and sanded the back edges for the back door, lugged the monitor over to my folks......and then got stuck helping my dad trim this huge tree in their back yard for 2 hours :(

Trimming trees, whatever ..You're actually building it! Seems to be progressing quite nicely too. Just keep working it... ;D

is it just me, or is it kinda short? Is it designed to be a sitdown-styled cabinet?
Many appologies if I missed that part.
If its better carpentry practice to build the top first and then attach it to a bottom, Id like to know about that... but it doesnt quite make sense in my head.

Oh yeah, it's a sitdown. 4 out of my other 5 cabs are sitdowns. Well, the WECHE Ok Baby cab has the extension to go either way, but I keep it as a sitdown. I am still going to put the wheels on the back and short legs on the front, just like many of the sitdowns have. Plus, I figured if it was going to have a driving setup, what would I want to do, sit or stand. I would rather sit and drive. :)
As for how it was built...it's my first time. I am just kinda going with it with my fingers crossed. Most of the gaming stuff I have made (not cabs) has turned out pretty nice. The hardest part right now is getting the front to look nice and be hor/vert capable. Other than that, everything is coming along slowly...but ok. The bottom just feels deep, but that's a big ass monitor on there, lol.

What is that game running vertically on your Dreamcast?
I have a 27" vertical cab, and my buddy just found 2 Dreamcasts at a yard sale and said I could have one.

Most of the vertical shooters on DC have the option to actually run them properly for a vertical screen.

If your vert cab doesn't have 31khz, you can hack your vga adapter to play in 15khz and run on a regular jamma cab. What cab do you have?

yeah, that's a great option too. The game in the picture is Gunbird 2. It's really fun.

I'm using a 27" TV with component/S-video and RCA inputs, so I won't have any problem with the Dreamcast.
Thanks for the info.
-
cool! I am going to need a vga switch box of some type for the naomi, dc, and xbox to all go in via vga. Is there a vga to component adapter? The DC looks great in VGA...at least most games. That right there is VGA on the monitor, and the 2d looks quite nice.

dumped the thin top...going another route. Did my first t-molding router job ever, lol...could be better, but it's not too bad. Not sure what I will do about the top half.
not too good looking, but it's still another step towards getting this thing home.

IMHO, if yer planning to cover that wood, it makes the T-molding kinda a silly idea at this stage.
Looking nice, though-what plans do you have for the TV?

I figured I would cut the t-molding slots prior to painting and just took a picture with it in as I wanted to see what it looks like. :) The Mitsubishi monitor it going to sit on a kinda wedge shaped wood setup I will make that may also have t-molding on it and sit behind the movelist holder. Right now I am thinking Black for the color and will swap the red buttons with white sanwa buttons. I wanted a brighter color just because well, black doesn't seem to inviting...but the white t-molding and black monitor leave me with little color choice for a good match. I figure some black paint and nice white art of some sort on the front and sides will be really nice. I think the monitor will just sit on top. I like it like this more and more everytime I look at it. :)
as for the monitor...it's for VGA with Naomi, WInning Eleven 2003, and Dreamcast...with a mas systems supernova for other jamma games. At least that's the plan. Should have a driving setup that hooks up for the DC too though.
