Are there any other wrestling fans in the house? I catch a lot of flack from just about everyone (ie parents, wife) because I still enjoy getting my weekly wrestling fix. I have been a fan my entire life, though, and I just don't feel like it is that big of deal. To be honest, it is pretty much the only TV I watch anymore aside from a couple of select shows. I have a feeling that I need to put on my fire-retardant jumpsuit for this one. Let me have it guys.

I grew up watching wrestling, but now that I am older, I rarely watch it. Every once in a while I will get in a mood and catch it for a few weeks. I did see that DX is back together. HHHs character was really getting old. It seems the number of ladies grows each time I turn it on.
I guess as long as you aren't laying around in an uber old recliner with your dog and a 6pack of Old Milwaukee's Best, you should be ok.

Indeed. I'm off to the wrestling this Friday night in Sydney. There's quite a few of us going, including my kids. I blame my kids for getting me back into wrestling as when they were babies, I'd get up in the wee hours and do some channel surfing. I must admit I was surprised when I saw it back on the telly. That was about 8 years ago now.
I find it entertaining and my kids love it. We stress to them that it's "pretend" and they're cool with that. I guarantee you though that I'll get the biggest, loudest, drunkest redneck sit right next to me who will swear to God Almighty that it's real. Weirdo's find me in crowds.

My old roommate was really into wrestling. He spent a couple months growing out his moustache so it would be perfect when he dressed up as Hulk Hogan for halloween. I have to admit, it was a pretty good costume, here he is getting interviewed on local tv.

I was a fan as a kid during the late 80's, early 90's. I remember seeing the wrestlemania when Hulk and Warrior wrestled the main event. Boy that was great. Then I was a fan during the Raw/Nitro wars. I lost interest once WWF became WWE.

I used to watch a lot of wrestling when I was younger, but I haven't watched any in at least 5 years I'd say. I just kind of fell out of it I guess, and it never grabbed my attention again.
It always was pretty entertaining though.

I used to be a huge wrestling fan, but I lost interest after WWF gobbled up WCW and ECW... no competiton is no good. However, I have found myself watching some TNA as of late.

Personally I think of wrestling as "post-post-post modern" theatre for the masses. Drama, revenge, love, hate, friendship, betrayal, it's all in there.
Not that it's Shakespeare but it could be. I lost interest when things started getting recycled over and over again.
Now I prefer to watch UFC. But I respect the theatre that is pro wrestling.

Now I prefer to watch UFC. But I respect the theatre that is pro wrestling.
UFC is too organized now. It was much more entertaining when it was a tournament with minimal rules, varying fighting styles, and best...no weight classes.
Come on, the rush of when Keith hackney whooped emanuel yarborough and then had to withdraw after shattering his hand on the guys head just isn't there anymore.
One last note- I used to be a Ken Shamrock fan...before he embarrased himself twice to Tito Ortiz.

For many years now, myself and 3 friends get together every Monday to watch RAW. It's become more of a "thing to do with the guys" rather than a sake of being an avid wrestling fan.
That said, We've been to a few PPVs. Wrestlemania X8 in Toronto and XX in NYC. No Way Out in Montreal a couple of years back... At one point, The Rock had this schtick where he was acting all Hollywood, and he'd do Satellite interviews etc... On one of those interviews he looks off-camera and asks his assistant to go get him some tofu to eat (he says it in heel fashion of course)... Anyway, we enjoyed that segment, so when we went to No Way Out, we made up a huge TOFU sign...
That night when The Rock entered the ring and went up on the rope to hail the crowd, he was posed in a perfect position that the cameras caught him with the huge TOFU sign behind him... It was televised on the PPV which is cool, but even cooler is that they used the clip during the RAW intro for a while... I was pretty stoked about that. :)

I was a fan when I was ten, but then when I found it was was a male soap opera I stopped watching it.
I am a huge fan of the UFC, PrideFC, King of the Cage, and the IFL.
The IFL has just signed Frank Shamrock on as a coach. Along with Randy Couture, Carlos Newton, Renzo Gracie, Mark Coleman, Maurice Smith and Pat Miletich. This sport is the one to watch.

That was about when I was watching it, too. I'm betting if I dug around deep enough, I could find my copy of Wrestlemania 2 (or was it three?) that a friend made for me from his PPV.
I think I first got into it in the early/mid 80s, though, when my sister used to watch it because she thought Kerry Von Eric was teh hawtness. And I still rememeber the time Jimmy "Supafly" Snooka got beamed in the head with the timer bell and they said his career was over due to the brain injury (aka, he retired from pro wrestling). The best part of that was that they made that diagnosis before he even hit the ground. Hacksaw Jim Duggin was always funny to watch and the Shitkickers (or whatever those two Australian brothers called themselves) were good comedy. The day they went shopping for a Mother's Day present in the lingerie store was a high point of 80s comedy.

Those would be the bushwackers. Hacksaw was the man. I used to go in the back yard and chuck a 2x4 into the air. Somehow, I managed to avoid brain damage. ;D

I watched in the earliest years of my life. Andre the Giant was my hero...I still believe he was the greatest wrestler ever.
Then I watched during the NWO white and red days. I think because I could relate to the hogan/macho man war. Stopped watching when they had ray mysterio (a lightweight)win like 10 heavyweight matches in a row.

I'll chime in and show my age at the same time....do any of you remember back when WCW used to be NWA? I grew up on Mr. Wrestling I and II, Tommy "Wildfire" Rich, Harley Race (at the end of his career), Ric Flair (in the beginning to middle of his), the Rock 'n' Roll Express (still one of the greatest tag teams of all time, 2nd only to the Road Warriors), etc. al.
I saw at least one dis toward Sting - now I haven't seen him since WCW closed shop, but don't be too disrespectful....the man carried a company for a LOT of years. Best match I ever saw was a 60 minute TV draw between Stinger and Flair at a "Clash of the Champions" show, with Horseman Manager J.J. Dillon caged high above the ring, and the 4 Horseman pinned up back stage.
I still watch WWE from time to time, but I miss the goold old days when guys REALLY knew how to perform in the ring more than outside it. And then, of course, there's no more Gordon Solie to call the action. For as good a commentator as J.R. is, he'll never have Solie's vocal inflections. Gordon, quite frankly, was a genius as far as announcers go.

What Sting did 15 years ago doesn't mean much more than legacy now. He hasn't done anything but chop and kick in TNA and doesn't look able to do much more if he tried. Having your best matches with Ric Flair isn't a testament to your ability, it's a testament to Flair being the best of all time.

My favorite was when Boris Zukoff and the Iron Shiek would beat up on some guy and Sargent Slaughter would come out and knock both of them out of the ring.

HBK and HHH. They reformed about a month ago. Fueding with Vince and Shane O'Mac. Tag match at summerslam.
BTW.. The New Age Outlaws are still around. They recent reformed in TNA as the James Gang.
X-pac still wrestles too.

Raw has become the DX and Spirit Squad show. It is terrible now. Even the "who knocked up Stephanie" jokes aren't funny anymore.

I'll agree with you to a point about Flair and Sting; there can be no doubt about how good Flair can make ANYONE look in a ring....even if the guy is awful.
I didn't know Sting was with TNA, but if all he's doing is chopping and kicking nowadays, I wish he would retire and leave his fans the true legacy he has - the days with NWA / WCW.

That's another "used to"... Flair is still wrestling full time and can barely move anymore. Guys are carrying him now. Guys like The Big Show are carrying him. That is just a tragedy.
I didn't know Sting was with TNA, but if all he's doing is chopping and kicking nowadays, I wish he would retire and leave his fans the true legacy he has - the days with NWA / WCW.
When TNA got themselves their national contract they decided they needed "star power". That "star power" was guys like Sting, Scott Steiner, the Dudleys, the Old Age Outlaws, and worst of all Kevin Nash... basically, TNA is more like WCW Thunder now than anything else. Sting is being paid so much money that it is handcuffing TNA's ability to bring in new indy talent, and he's not providing anything more than entrances and promos. He can't or at least won't perform the way TNA guys are expected to, but since he's Sting, he gets away with it. In most matches he won't even do anything as difficult as a suplex.
And while I'm here, might as well chime in - I like the "reformed" DX as well, but the Spirit Sqaud is the STUPIDEST thing Vince has ever done. Keep DX, get rid of SS!!

You do make a good point though, and though I was holding Flair up in high regard, I was talking about the younger version. I wish Flair and some of the other old guys would back aside and make room for the fresh younger true talent that WWE is building up. Bobby Lashley seems to be the real deal, and like him or hate him, there is no doubting John Cena's ring ability. I said from the get go that Cena was the real deal and no one in my family bought that until he became champ; however, the first time Cena hit the ring to take on Kurt Angle and held his own in that match I knew the "kid" - if you will - was for real.
Of course, we must remember that this is the only thing some of these guys may know how to do, which is perform....which is also sad.

Anyone watch the new ECW?? We dont get it yet in Canada (soon tho, starts on friday nite) I hear it isnt very good. Atleast Angle and RVD are back now.

It is awesome when they are in the Hammerstein. Even the terrible matches are great to watch there. During the recent Big Show / Batista match the crowd was so on the wrestlers that it was more fun to watch than the match. I almost wet my pants when the entire crowd was chanting CHANGE THE CHANNEL because the match sucked.
When they have the ECW show in the Smackdown arena, it sucks. Of course, it didn't help that they booked the entire ECW resurrection around someone they had to suspend for a month after he got arrested for possession.

Doesn't matter... the McMahons have always had problems with him dating back to the original ECW invasion of Raw when he came in with a real attitude problem and pissed off all the wrong people... so he gets very little slack at all. I was surprised they used him the way they did to relaunch ECW and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get booted again soon when he does something else stupid.
