I am somewhat followiung these instructions,
http://arcadecontrols.com/hosted/yoke/
but am having a hell of a time finding gears that will work at my local hoppy shops.
All the gears are too small or have a huge open circle in the middle so I cant properly attach the gears to the shaft. I need gears with approximately a 2:1 ratio, I doesn't to be 40 and 20 tooth like in the guide, as long as it is close to 2:1.
I have looked online, but when I find gears, the information on the size of the gears is lacking, they will often give a tooth count, but not show a picture so I know if I can actually use the gears or not.
Any help is greatly appreciated in finding some gears.
Thanks

McMaster-Carr sells a variety of gears:

Thanks for the link, but the price on those are insane, it would be $60-$100 for the 4 gears I need.
Hobby shop gears, if I can find ones that will work, should be about $20 for all I need.

Shameless bump for help.

Has anyone here actually made one of these using those plans?
And if so is the control response in MAME exactly the same as an original set of controls on an original game?
Thanks.

Yes, a computer emulation of the original hardware, displayed on a raster monitor, controlled by a homemade controller, will be exactly the same as an original set of controls on an original game. :dizzy:

Alternate source for yoke parts: www.ramcontrols.com
They're working on a very nice looking repro yoke- they're not ready yet, but they have stated that they will be selling the parts individually, and some of the parts are already available. You might contact them to see if you can score some gears. Darned if I know how much they'll be charging, though.

2.1:1 Ratio PN: TRA 5383 Traxxas Gear Set,2 Spd Close
2.3:1 Ratio PN: TRA 5384 Traxxas Gear Set, 2 Spd Wide
3:1 ? Ratio PN: TRA 5385 Traxxas Gear Set,2 Spd Stand (not sure on this ones gear ratio)
I wanted teh 2.1:1 ratio, but the store was out of 2 sets, so being impatient after looking off and on for 3 months for the gears, went for the 2.3:1 ratio. Two sets cost me $15 + tax. The are just about perfect size for using on the home depot lamp rod used in the tutorial. I plan on documenting my build process well, I'll keep everyone posted once I have more to show.

I didn't bother with the pots as I made mine with opticoders using the mouse hack.
I tried looking for the gears and just gave up, besides you cannot beat a
