Does anybody know which pins on the I-PAC are used for what LED lights, Caps/Num/Scroll lock??
I have got some push buttons from Ozstick, the PB05 Square Illuminated Buttons with 12V Filament Globe illumination, can i connect the bulb side of these buttons to the correct pins on the I-PAC? Does the I-PAC actually Power the 12v bulbs for these buttons, and if so are they on all the time, and then just flash for certain games depending on which pins you connected them to on the I-PAC??

Don't do it! You'll likely cook those inputs if you try.
Search the forums for circuits people have used to make things like this work. It can be done, just not as simply as you had probably hoped.

What Randy said... you need to build this circuit, except using a 12V source and appropriate resistors, etc:

They used to be for sale in 5V form from gamecab but they have been out of stock forever:

Here's how you wire it:

The ipac doesn't have the juice to drive even superbright LEDs, much less incandescent bulbs.
Just a side note, if you are going to be using MAME to flash your player start buttons, you'll need a build prior to v0.104 because they broke the LED flashing code around then.

I tried using LED flashing in 1.07 and all the 3 lights lit up and blink when there are credits available (Omega Race for example).

I have never been able to get mine to work. :banghead:
I suppose I'll have to take a closer look at it.

They must've fixed it! Dammit!! I wasn't going to upgrade to v0.107 because of the new graphics stuff, but now I have to. :)

So how does the I-PAC tell the LED's when to flash, am i right in think that depending on the game, say TMNT, when u insert a coin the player start button flash, at this point does the I-PAC stop the flow from the 0V side of the LED's causing them to go out and the reapplies it again, so it flashes?? If this is the cause could i not hook the +12v side of my lamps up to my PC PSU and then the 0V side of the lamps to the I-PAC??

It supplies a small 5V current whenever the keyboard LEDs (numlock, capslock, scrolllock) are 'on'. MAME blinks these keyboard LEDs in some games (not TMNT, mostly older atari games like Centipede, Asteroids, etc) to simulate the lighted volcano button blinking on the actual machines when coins are inserted. But the IPAC keyboar dLED feature really has nothing to do with MAME -- you can manually toggle the capslock key on and off and the IPAC will still light up the LEDs. And no, you can't just hook up 12V as you've suggested. You need the previously mentioned power circuit.
