Is there a way in MALA to *not* display games that I don't have?
For some reason I show I have certain games in the main gamelist, (and even my custom ones) but I don't actually have those ROMs.

Enter your rom path and check the option 'Only games with rom'. Then refresh your main game list.
-
Thanks Swindus, I will look at that. Will my changing that also affect my custom gamelists?
-
Also, right click you mouse after launching Mala and select "recompile roms" (or something to that effect) and it will only populate the game list with the roms in your rom folder.
-
Hmm, I don't have 'recompile ROMs' there, but I do have refresh main game list. Is there any way to refresh the custom lists I have?
By the way, thanks for the help on this.

You can only 'refresh your main game list'. The idea being that your create this first then make custom lists from this using filters or manually using the MaLaGamelist tool.
How many items are in the list you made up? Did you make them manually. Don't forget you can make lists automatically based on certain criteria. (See attached pic)

*sigh*
I guess I have to re-do all of my custom lists again?
MALA is seeming less and less likely to remain my FE.
-
Don't give up too easily, MALA is relatively new, but seems to be quite capable of being a full time slap-ya-momma FE.
NOTE: I currently use MAMEWAH (from 2 years ago for my first cabinet - never updated)

I do sympathise but I still don't understand why you created customs lists with roms you don't have in the first place? Very Odd I feel. :-\
Mame setup is clearly documented on the Website:

Mate..... I don't care what FE you use (I'm not the Author of it) . ;).. MaLa rocks for me so if people on this Forum what free help , I am here for them ;D
Cheers

Well the custom lists were created before I knew that mala had to be told not to show games I dont have, which - in itself- is extremely lame. Even MAME32 will let me know in some way that I don't have ROM X or Clone of GameX. Mala just put *everything* it's ever heard of in the list.
It should be able to manage the custom lists it can create as well as it's main list. I really don't know why that isn't an option with it.

If you don't want to re-make your custom lists you could either:
1) Remove the games you don't want on the fly (as you go) . You can allocate keys to do that under controller settings:
2) Edit them in the game list editor

Sometimes it is better to read some lines before using a software ... ;)

You can edit your customs list with MalaGamelist to remove the games you don't have roms for in the following way:
Create a main game list with all games (games with roms not checked) like you already have.
Open this game list in MalaGamelist and save it to 'All games full'
Create your main game list in Mala again with the option 'games with roms' and other options you like.
Open 'all games full' with MalaGamelist and use the function 'Exclude game list' to remove the list 'all games' from the 'all games full' list. Save the list to 'all games no roms'. This is the list of all games you don't have a rom for.
Now open your custom list and exclude 'all games no roms' from the custom list. Do this for every custom list.
