Title: BYOAC Fantasy Football - Draft Date
Post by: DrewKaree on July 30, 2006, 10:27:31 pm
August 20th will be the earliest date.  If anyone wants to have it later, closer to the start of the season to avoid any potential pre-season injury problems with having a draft around that date, vote, and chime in here.  The season starts September 7th (Thursday).  Anytime up until then should be fine if you guys want a different date.

You're going to too much trouble.  Just start making decisions and notifying us.

It's automatic, so what does it matter. ;D Make it 2 or 3 days before the first game, that way we all have time to sort players and prepare for first week.

In all honesty I really doesn't matter to me.  I voted for the latest date to be able to exclude the nancies that get hurt in the pre-season.

Now, I haven't ever been in a strictly intranets FF leauge before.  My question is:  Does Yahoo automatically adjust the avalible draftee ranking list if a player is hurt or does he still remain at his pre-selected rank?  ie: Shaun Alexander gets hurt, does he remain #1 or does he slide?

Last year he would have remained #1.

DeLong, go pre-rank your players unless you're happy with how Yahoo ranks 'em.  That way, you only have yourself to blame ;D

Yeah, I understand that.  And I already have.  I was just curious as to how yahoo works its FF leauge.  I didn't know if it was retard proof or what.

Since it's an autodraft, I don't really care when the draft occurs.  The later, the better, I suppose.

Unrelated question -- as I reflect upon it further, I'm not sure I'm really going to be able to devote the effort to this that I'd like, and I know how much it sucks to have an owner that isn't really engaged, and that it can have a negative impact on the league as a whole.  With that in mind, was there anyone else that expressed interest in the league that might want to take my place?

With that said, if I stay in the league, I'm not planning on just mailing it in and will do my best, I just thought it would be appropriate for me to offer to step aside in case there was someone else that was really gung ho about this.

Lemme know

I don't anticipate anyone putting in more than 15 minutes a week into this.  Log in, tweak your lineup, lot out, taunt tommy.

I say lets do it early.  Earliest the bestest.     That way if someone gets hurt in camp it'll make you have to trade around and beef up your lineup.

Or you could just avoid that by taking them out of your priority list in a late draft.

I procrastinate
I wanted the latest date
So I voted "late"

I voted the 27th because I am too lazy to spend alot of time reorganizing yahoo's rating system.  This would give me enough time to pick up a few extra players to fill in my gaps.

Exactly why you've been told to start the pool.  All talk and no go. 8)

Get off your fat ass and start the pool if you want the betting, and stop your stupid bitching and whining.  Until you do it yourself, you're JUST as bad, if not WORSE than what you claim to hate.  If you're just a lazy ass, tell everyone, so they can stop expecting that you'll finally DO something other than whine about how it's not getting done.

Stop BEING a ---smurfette---, and start DOING something about what you think should be done.

Anyone ever notice it's always the least intelligent person who wants to involve money?

The "go" is the game itself, not money.

We play without money.  Accept it or play with yourself somewhere else.

I would gladly start a money pool if we ALL were in it. The ones who don't want in is all the reason i would start it.

I'll never understand that, either, as that's always the answer you get from the money people.

"It's no good unless everyone is in it."

What, don't you have the same chance to win or lose your money regardless of one or two nonparticipants?  It's not 100% to your liking so you refuse?

Boy I'm really starting to lose interest in this...

BTW, I decided to go ahead and drop out of this -- I had a chat with shardian, though, and he's bowing out as well, so you'll still have an even number.

Nothing personal, just found myself in a lot of leagues this year, and I know from past experience that it is tough to stay engaged when you're in that many.

Good luck, all.

Nancy.

Post by: toasty on August 21, 2006, 06:10:05 pm

Nancy.

Yeah, whatever.  I don't know if you've ever done multiple leagues before, but you get to a point where you're torn because each week, you'll have the same guy playing for you that is also playing against you.  Becomes tough to know who to root for, and you end up rooting for no one, which takes the fun out of having FF players to pull for in the first place.

It's not the workload of doing multiple leagues -- it just dilutes the fun factor of any one league, IMO.  I'm in 4 others, all of which I've paid for, all of which are with people I actually know personally and see on a regular basis, and all of which let you pick your own team, so I have to be realistic about the idea that this one is probably the one that is going to get the least attention.  I actually feel like I'm doing you guys a service by bowing out now so you can have a league with a reasonable number of teams without a guy in it that couldn't care less whether he wins or loses.

Like I said, good luck to all, enjoy the league, take care.

It looks like the league is still set up for two QBs. I thought we were going to have just one QB?

Well right now we have no QBs.

Looks like we had an odd amount of teams and it says it will not do the draft with odd amount.  I am in the process (loading up truck now) of moving and don't know if and when I will have time to be on the computer this fall so I went ahead and deleted my team, now there is an even amount of teams and if it is set to draft it will overnight I believe.  Good luck guys.

I was trying to work on finding a team to take the place of the odd one out.  I also believe I changed the QB requirement, but I'll double check.  Yahoo's also terrible with having to refresh or clear your cache too.

Draft will have to happen tomorrow.  Since it's an auto-draft, I'll set it up to run in the afternoon.

Sound good?

This sucks.  Evidently, they'll decide the time.  The draft will be held sometime between now and the 10th.  Check your teams to see if it runs before the game tomorrow night.

Sorry about dropping the ball on that one.

That makes no sense from Yahoo!    What if you get Ronnie Brown as a top pick but can't set your lineup ?
Does he just sit on the bench ?  Or will yahoo start scoring in week 2 ?

Post by: DrewKaree on September 07, 2006, 01:16:14 am
Evidently he'll just sit on the bench, since they say "between now and the 10th".  I'm guessing either you won't be able to start anyone in tomorrow's game (if the draft is after that game), or indeed they will start our "season" in week 2.

Remains to be seen.  I'm pretty sure I can put someone's roster in if they have him (or anyone else in that game), so if anyone plans on starting Willie Parker or any Dolphin, say so in this thread before the game starts.

i.e. "If I get him, I'm starting Duke Jabroni in the Thursday night game"

Whoops, I didn't see that the draft was done until too late.

It looks like I have an extremely strong team this year. I won missing two starters! I think I like the one-QB change after all, that's what crippled me last year.

You know as well as i do that the giants have as good if not better players compared to most any team out there at the rb, wr, te and qb position, if not any position.

Barber no comparison the best if not as good as tomlinson if you can compare two different style runners. Barber can do it all, no argument out of you I'm sure. Anything any back can do barber can do it better no question.

Plaxico is coming along as a randy moss type player, only difference is moss cant seem to play without dante and vise verse i think we will come to find out.. Plaxico is in his prime and catches what moss used to at any given time, he really cares about his performance playing with winners and getting good habits from players as barber, shocky and Strahan.

Eli makes most rookie qbs look like a second string high school drop out in a very short time as a starter in the nfl, within the next few years he will be as good or better then peyton.

Having a tight end who can catch, block and do anything asked of him very well is a great guy to have on a team. Not to mention shocky having a competitive nature and is all heart on the field, i can honestly say i would not have a single other player as the teams te no matter who is out there.

Too bad the giants colts game had to have a horrible pushing off interference call go the colts way. the colts db fell and it was considered a giants wr foul  removing a 15 or so yard pass to possibly win the game. The really bad part is seeing the replay and saying with anyone watching "that was a bad call/ mistake" and THEN seeing the game just continue off of a horrible ref error is a crying shame.

I really cant see how you can let a game go by letting a team who easily could have lost and a team who could easily  have won play out after a major error no fault of the teams is a damn shame.  If the games are played and major errors are made in a team winning or losing on an agreeable bad call and the game just goes on from there i see no point in watching any further.
