Title: Mario Bros themed MAME Cabinet: Complete!
Post by: bleemus on July 30, 2006, 12:03:43 am
Never have posted about this cab before, but it is 99% done.  Only a wireless network card and possibly a bezel.  You can't see the monitor or behind it with the smoked plexi with normal eyes, the flash just brings out that stuff.

If you are interested at all about all the steps on this cab, you can go to my MSN Space (http://bleemus.spaces.msn.com).

My first cab, with another one to start soon!

Looks great! The colors are matched up pretty good.

How does it play?

I wish I could.  I put a hugeass Dell 21 inch monitor in there... so it is about the same size, but it sits up really close to the plexi.  I fear that if I put the bezel on there, you would have to crouch down to view the screen, and some of the screen might even be cut off.  I'm 5'11", and when I look at it while playing, i can just see the top of the screen, so I'm pretty sure the bezel would block it.  Wish I could though, it would look alot better with it.

How does it play?

I have no complaints so far.  The Happ 360s are really smooth, although the springs are creaking around a little bit, I'm sure that will stop once they are worn in a bit.  Still would like a slightly bigger diagonal on them, I need to find someone with access to a lathe in the STL area that I can use to chop down the extra actuators I bought.

you can have it done here :

and for $5 extra it can be self adhesive  :)

no need to touch the monitor...

I was having issues with cooling; I even had a video card burn up it was getting so warm in there. (is was just a GeForce 1, so no huge loss)

So, I bought some 120mm fans (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811999145) that have a hardware temperature control.  I mounted the fans on the cab back piece I made as to not have to violate the cab itself.

I mounted one on the bottom as an intake fan.  It seems to be bringing in air well, since it is pushing out the top vents on the back quite.  We'll hope I don't have to mount a second one on top to blow out/in.

I screwed some wood on the back to come up flush to the back of the fan, then cut up some PC expansion slot covers to use for "mounting brackets".

It may not be pretty, but it works!

The place seen, you may came to hit the quit button, when you dosent should have do. So it would been better let BOTH bottons hit down simulations to quit mame (like I do on my cab).

Nice cab even.
