Title: Act-Labs Question
Post by: SONIC on March 13, 2003, 09:36:40 am
I saw that Act-Labs has made a TV version of their lightgun...
now I really want lightguns on my arcade, 'coz there's allot cool games outthere that uses guns!!!

What I need to know before I go ahead and order is; Which ones to buy?! The normal ones (for PC monitors) or the TV ones? Which one will run perfect on a arcade-monitor?! And is there any tweaking to be done to them?! Or is it just like, connect them to the usb, and the vga-cable, and off you go?!

Thanks for any helping answers in advance! I really want some lightguns for the arcade :)

Cheers!!!

If you are using an Arcade VGA you can use the PC Usb lightgun.

May not be applicable in your case but for others reading this thread.

It will *not* work on Sun type SVGA monitors (usually larger ones, 20" or 21").

I've seen it personally on two seperate monitors Sun monitors and have read about other users having the same problem.  Nobody seems to know why but Act Labs was *very* good about taking the gun back and refunding me.

From what I understand... the sun and some sonys (trinitron)  both used this special mounitng method for shadowmask's.

If you look closely at the monitor, you can see 2 horizontal lines that litterally 'hold the picture up'.   These lines probably mess up the scan process for the guns.

Seems like the ActLabs PC USB is the solution for me then... running my mame-pc on a Hentarex Polo 25", so shouldn't be no prob!!!

I read allot about 2 player confusion though, but to start with I will order 1 anyways, see how good it works!

And if I got you all right, the guns will run in Mame32 too, right?!

Thanks for the help so far :)

Just because I love Linux dosn't mean I don't use windows occasionally! I prefer Mandrake Linux over XP any day, but for many upsetting reasons now and then I need to use windows. Also I tested the lightgun in MAME32 for my site. Basicaly I leave windows around for Dreamweaver and my NetZero as I can't really get by on WINE for some of this stuff.

hehe.  You should see the lengths my boss goes through so he doesn't have to use windows!  He just bought a new notebook that came with XP.  He didn't want to format the harddrive for a week (while waiting for another drive to come in...).  He complained 5 times an hour about how much noise came from an OS... he finally disabled the sound card..

I use XP.  But I have to for work...
