Last week I began building my very first arcade cabinet. The design is basically from the Project Arcade book. Just slight changes.
As you can see its about ready for painting.
I have the t-molding and artwork ordered. The joysticks, buttons, encoder, and coin door have already arrived. And I just bought a new computer and monitor, though no software figured out yet.
You may also notice it could double as a dog house. My dog likes hiding in the coin door for some reason.
-
Lookin' good! I think you should leave the coin door open like that for the dog - it could be the world's first "DogCade"!
-
Awesome. If you could figure out some way to keep the dog fur out of the electronics, you could have the very first doghouse/arcade combo. Just be sure to hit it with febreeze once in a while. ;)
-
And they say everything has already been done in this hobby.

That's some security system you have...
Keep the pictures and posts coming, its looking good so far..
-
Instead of quarters, you drop dog treats into the slot.
-
Out of curiosity, what kind of wood did you use?
It looks great - brought back a lot of memories! :)
-
great start :)
is it the shadow dancer wolf in that cab :o

I used 1/2 inch S2S Birch Hardwood Plywood. It is my favorite hobby wood to use. The problem is the hardwood veneer which splinters easily when cutting so you have to keep your blade sharp and on rips you have to tape where you cut to stop the splintering.

She is a spoiled Chiuaua Pomeranian mix. She is very cute and friendly, and is always helping me meet girls, none can resist her puppy dog eyes.

Almost done.
No software has been installed yet, and I need to figure out some sort of bezel and glass to cover the monitor, but most everything else is finished.
Everything is working, the control panel, the coin door, etc.
I was also thinking of maybe ordering some side art and kick guard from mamemarques, where I bought the CP and custom marquee art.
-
So what is the story behind the marquee? Bug Hunter sure is a unique name for a cabinet.
-
I made a DirectX game several years ago called Bug Hunter, and my original intention was to make an arcade machine just for that game.
But after starting to build it and seeing how much it costs, I decided to make it a multiple game mame cabinet. I figure why spend $1000+ for something that plays just one game.
The Bug Hunter game will be default, but will also be able to play other basic arcade games.
-
Nice cabinet! It turned out great and it looks like you did things fairly speedy.
Whats your thoughts on the magstik+? I see you have the Street Fighter layout and I'm curious how you think it handles for those games.
-
I honestly do not know yet. I have not tested it with any games as the software has not been loaded yet. I opened notepad and checked that all the buttons and directions work, but nothing past that.
What I do like about the mag-stik plus is that I can change between 4-way and 8-way from the top, without having to open the control panel.

Yes! That is a good feature. Check out Mike Deuces handywork on the magstik dustwashers. It's a cool. It's on page 2, but check out all his stuff -
