Title: Fuzzy video is killing my insides!
Post by: payment_due on July 26, 2006, 11:29:59 pm
OK, here's my mame.ini file.  I put it on pastebin.ca so it's easier to read instead of pasting it as code here.  Pastebin link (http://pastebin.ca/101736)

SOMEHOW, I was able to get WindowsXP to stop being so jittery, but the resolution is extremely low. I mean SUPER LOW, like all of the icons are about 2 inches across.  That doesn't bother me at all since I spend .000% of my time within windows on my cab.  So using MALA, the front end looks great now, its not jittery and its very stable, looks great.

I don't have 'enforce aspect ratio' checked, and so far - all of the games take up most of the screen, which is what I wanted.  99% of the games I play look fine with a few stragglers that I am willing to live with.  But I can't get past this fuzzy video!  I used to have very crisp video before and now for some reason it's not crisp anymore.  I've used the ArcadeVGARes.exe tool and it hasn't helped so I'm not sure what else I need to be doing.

Anyone have any suggestions?

It's a 25 inch monitor.  As for brand and model, I'm not sure as I'd have to open my cab and look at that.

Try changing hwstretch from a 1 to a 0 in your mame.ini file. My games were a little bit blurry on the top and bottom of the screen until I turned off hwstretch.  Then they became crisp and clear.

Thanks JON,

I tried that and its still doing the same thing.  I dont know why this is happening.  When I first got the cab it had some version of MAME on it, and it also had a huge 25meg file called ArcadeVGA.dat or something similar (will have to see when I get home).  I remember I removed that file and had some fuzzy vid, so I put it back and it started working right.

But now, even with that file in my MAME directory, it still doesn't work. I dont know what's going on with it.

I guess maybe I'll have to live with this fuzzy video. It's not terrible, it looks fine and is in no way unplayable.  I can just see how it's different, especially when checking it with the capcom games.  Capcom games always have their little startup screens, with the "Street Fighter II X, (serial#) 1994"  I can see how those letters are not as crisp as they should be.

I had a recent issue similar to that recently on my pc, totally un-MAME related.
And it turned out to be the onboard video drivers didn't jive with my monitor.
I have heard about similar issues and the ArcadeVGA.

Have you tried disabling any video drivers other than the ArcadeVGA?
(assuming you are using the ArcadeVGA video card)

Or I could be totally off the wall with this.
