Well, after much debate I'm going with swappable metal panels on my old Frogger cab. The first one will be a single player CP with a 4/8 way joystick, 2 1/4" Happ trackball, and a TurboTwist spinner. The safe usable panel surface is 22" wide by 6.5" deep. The pic below is to scale. Your comments/thoughts are very much appreciated!
As for future panels, #2 will be a 2 player LS30 rotary panel, and #3 will be a 2 player, 8 way joystick panel.

My panels are the same size, and I finally accepted that two people just wouldn't be comfortable.
I am doing one panel with a centered dedicated 4-way and two buttons, and another with an 8-way and 3 buttons, along with a centered 2-1/4 trackball.
Since I am going with a vertical monitor and focusing on the 4-way games, I prefer having the 4-way centered, like it was in the original arcade.
After that one tidbit, I think your panel looks great. Just make sure to print it out and lay it on the machine to get a "feel" for it. I have rejected several layouts after a dry run.

Shardian, please don't get me thinking about a vertical monitor again. I spent many a sleepless night agonizing over that decision. ;D
Thanks for the feedback!

Hey, don't sweat it. you can always build another. ;)
I included the wife factor in my decision. She only plays the vertical 4-way games, therfore, I get a high wife acceptance factor if my machine caters to those. Unfortunately, when she saw the new control panel show up in the mail, I lost a few points. ;D

Looks great to me. :)
