Title: My <1yr Betson 27" Arcade monitor just turned yellow...
Post by: Moby Ick on July 22, 2006, 05:00:53 pm
My Fairly new monitor has been shifting to a yellow hue for several minutes at a time every few weeks. Usually shifted back after a reboot.

Today, the monitor just shifted yellow permanently. It no longer corrects with a reboot/degauss/power on/off/jiggling of cables etc. I also reset it to the default settings with no luck. The yellow Hue shift appears from the minute it boots up till shutdown.

Do I have to assume the monitor board is FUBAR'd? If so, whats the next step? I really don't like fiddling with the innards (as I have young children and would like to be present for their later birthdays...).

Thanks
Mike

Addendum:
It returned to normal after a few hour shutdown.  Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Make sure that the video connection is secure on both ends.  It sounds like a bad connection.

I double checked the vga connector on the card already. not sure what I can do about connection on the monitor, I didn't want to get to close to the board fearing a bit of a jolt.

You're only going to get a jolt if you start messing around with stuff you shouldn't, like licking the anode wire.

And if you're that paranoid, just turn the machine *off* and test your connections.

Failing any attempt to find a poor connection via harness, check the board for broken solder joints.

is your betson a digital monitor if so just get the on screen menu up to see if the colours on that are ok,i just worry that some colour/frequency related issue's are down to the graphic card-like  i said in another thread i had a wartran running on an asus card that would loose colour, the other engineers insisted it was a monitor fault.

I pulled up the color temp screen if that's what you mean, and tried to change the color temp to no effect. I thik next time it happens, I'll try plugging it into my laptop instead of the Arcade VGA card. That should isolate the problem to the monitor assuming the hue does not go away with the other graphics card.

Ok a bit of an update.
I was using the arcade for 20 mins, screen turned yellow. Unplugged the monitor and plugged it into laptop, still yellow.

Obviously it's the monitor. I can't find any loose connections anywhere. I guess I'll have to call my local arcade game repair shop and see if they will do housecalls but I suspect it's going to cost more then a new monitor.

Pretty crappy that my <6 month old, <10 hour a week used monitor bit the dust so quickly. I even went to the trouble of putting in two fans to vent it.

Anyone else with any idea?

Mike

It's a sudden shift to yellow, right?  Not a gradual fade so much as just a sudden change of color?  I've had that happen on PC monitors where it was a connection.  I forget how the cable plugs into the Betson but I'd want to replace that cable that goes from the chassis to the PC.  After that, checking for boken solder joints / etc is your next best bet (and then of course a support guy if you didn't go that way for this step already).

I'd hate to hear that this is an issue with Betsons in general, but I don't see nearly as many complaints about these as I do the D9200s.  Besides that, both of my Betsons are doing great @ the 6 month mark still.

I had a PC monitor a while back that did the same thing.  Screen turned to yellow tint - still able to read text, see images, etc - but everything yellow.  It turned out to be the VGA cable.

This may or may not apply to your Betson, but thought I'd share.

Yah, it's a sudden shift. The cable seems ok but I'm not sure about its connection to the board on the monitor. I tried to jiggle it around a bit but it made no difference. I'll take a look at the board but I doubt I'll have any idea what I'm looking at...

Can you see only shades of Green, Yellow and Red?  Any Blue at all?

As mentioned already, could be a cable, bad video card, driver circuit in the monitor, or a short in the tube itself (unlikely due to the age).

The whole screen gets a yellow overcast. It will be working fine, then suddenly a tiny zap sound and the screen changes. It happened this am when the pc was on for 10 mins and I was doing something in windows. It seems to reset if monitor is shut off for a while. (not if I just turn it on and off). Yesterday i had it running for 2 hours with no problems.  Go figure. I would think if it was a cable it wouldn't keep switching back and forth.

Right now I'm tolerating it. Really don't look forward to trying to get it fixed...
