Out of curiousity, what console ROM naming convention do people use? TOSEC or Goodtools? Does anyone know which one gets updated more frequently?

Come on people! 43 views and 4 votes? Somebody throw me a bone here.

No-intro!

Tell me more about no-intro. I thought it was a rom dumping project. Is there also a naming convention associated with it? Have they published DAT files? Is it widely used? Can you link me to more information?
-
The main goal is to identify each unique rom. This is done by obtaining a clean dump and using the CRC of the file. It is a nice system and doesn't have all the "junk" of some of the other sets. They have their own DAT files and also an interesting side project called the No-intro Screenshot Archive which is in the process of collecting high quality, uniform, properly names images for each system. They are collecting snaps, titles, carts and box art. You can find out more information at their website, here: http://www.gbadat.altervista.org/

Other vote for No-Intro here :). I used Goodx until I found No-Intro project. I

I checked out the No-Intro web site. Good stuff. I couldn't find DAT sets for Atari 2600, Atari 7800 or Intellivision. Do they exist?
-
They are working in them, maybe we can download in just a couple of weeks. You can find more information in their forum.

For the A2600 I think they are waiting on the next Good Tools release which is due later this year. Yes, all the systems are not there yet but the are still young.

Ok, I'm getting more intrigued by this. It doesn't help that my company has blocked the main No-Intro page. So I'm left scouring 2nd party sources for info.
Looking through the DAT files I did find, it looks like No-Intro has fields for ROMCRC and game title. So, what happens if I run a no-intro DAT in clearmamepro with my ROM set? Do the zip files get renamed the game title and the actual ROM image get the ROMCRC, similar to a MAME set? The screen shots at the archive are named based on the ROMCRC instead of the game title. How does this work with a front end like MameWah or MALA? Don't they link up the zip file name to screenshot name? How would it work if the screenshots are named based on the ROM name?
Also, what is the relationship between the Goodtools DATs and the No-Intro DATs? Why would the No-Intro DATs have to wait till the next version of Goodtools?
Finally, can anyone post a link to the actual No-Intro naming convention? Or is it just the game title from the DAT?
-
MANY, most, of the GT and TOSEC roms will NOT verify using a no-intro DAT file.
Good Luck,
John
PS ...... If you have any questions you can PM me. I try not to discuss or even use the "R" word in the public forums

I vote for No-Into too.
I love the way you can use it to remove dupes, so you only end up with one region of each game by giving it a region priority.

Your project is very interesting Macarro. I'm curious, have you considered including controller overlay images for systems that use them? Like Colecovision, Atari 5200? There were also a few Atari 2600 games that used overlays.

INTV also. I know they are looking at Vectrex overlays. I submitted about a dozen of them to Macarro about a month ago, along with some Virtualboy cart and box scans.

I have some intellivision, Atari 2600 and Atari 5200 controller overlays that I'm collected form the web if you want them. They aren't original scans. Let me know.

If they are at over 200dpi, we are interested in them. Whe plan to release 200dpi scans, but we would like to receive 300dpi scans because maybe in the future we

Sorry, mine are all from the web, so they're 72 dpi.

I have Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Atari Jaguar, Atari Jaguar CD, Intellivision and Colecovision overlays in my artwork collection but I am not sure about the quality, hence I never said anything. I know your standards are quite high, which I agree with and I'm sure they wouldn't comply. I think it's get that we forget about the "junk" floating around and make new, uniform, clean, high res scans.

Maybe we should create any kind of tag for "low" quality scans with doesn
