Ok, this is going to sound a little cross, but just bear with me. SEARCH AND READ. If you are going to be a fixer upper, then take the time to learn.
Firstly, read about what the parts are called.  LINK  (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Marquee)
Then Read about vendors. LINK (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Vendors)
Then when you have found your immediate answer then start  here  (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Main_Page) and read all yer brain can handle. The  search  (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=search) function on this forum is also a great place to start.
Most folks here will be happy to answer any questions you have if you take the time to search and read first. If you want the easy route and want us to do your homework for you, then you might get slapped from time to time.

That is all... Carry on...

BTW Defender was my second game. GREAT GAME. Once you play with it for a while, change your dip switch settings and set it for hard. That thing kicked my @$$ every day before work. Kept me humble before I went and delt with people.

I can't really tell from the pictures (HINT: Some of us are getting on in years and big clear pictures help), but it looks like you're looking for marquee retainer.

If you want authentic, try eBay or RGVAC (I had one, but passed it along to another collector recently).

Or use generic, which you can get from Divemaster, and holds things in just as well.

Cheers

Thanks for the replys guys
@MYX
I have already read all that stuff before, dunno how I missed the retainers, Its probably been a while since I've read it though, Like 4 years
Anyway thanks all and PM Sent to divemaster
anway heres my progress on the machine
When I bought it it was 1,000,000times worse
the last owner decieded to convert it to a robocop machine and remove the marque and use it for a control panel by cutting it up.
they also thought it would be a good Idea to paint it with House paint 1/4 inch thick

I'm using spray can grey primer for the black ground background
Then spraying it with satin black in a spray can too
I know theres better ways of painting but I've used spray cans before and like the finish you can get from them

I had the same thing with mine. Some genius painted the whole thing with black house paint. I used Goof Off to get it off. I was nearly high by the time I got all the paint off. But at least it looked like a defender cab. Hey, when you get everything up and going, check out Bob Roberts (the real one) and pick up one of the battery replacements. Will save your game down the line. He is also a good source for video decoders, should one of your blow up (It happens)

On my Pac, I tried heatgun,Goof Off, Safest Stripper .. and a bunch of other chemicals.

To my surprise, the thing that worked the absolute best was a razor blade -- I dragged the cab outside, let the sun heat up the paint, then stripped the paint using the razor blade. Paint came off like butter with no damage to the underlying art.

Wish I had tried that first ...

Cheers.
