Title: Dimming the lighted trackball on SlikStik controller
Post by: Odin on July 20, 2006, 05:12:17 pm
I had SlikStik buile me a custom controller and it has a blue lighted trackball.  The trackball looks exceedingly cool in daylight or with the room lights on, but I like to play the cabinet at night with no lights on in the room.  Under those conditions the trackball glares in my eyes and makes the game difficult to play on games where you're not using the trackball.  I've been covering the trackball at night, but I would prefer to put a dummer on it so I could turn down and even turn off the light on the trackball.  I believe the trackball is lit with a LED.  Has anyone here made a dimmer for their trackball, and if so any pointers?

Just wire a 100 Ohm  Linear Pot in series in the power line running to the LED. You should be able to use that to dim the the LED right down to almost off, and still be able to have it on full in daylight.

Thanks, I'll do it this weekend when I tidy up the wiring and install my SmartStrip power strip.
