Iwas hoping to get answers regarding the Happs Ultimate that I recently received.
http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/507608xxx.htm
Up until now I've only been familiar with the Pac-man and Wico joysticks. I assume that the Happs Ultimates I have arrived as 4-ways since only one cherry switch at a time can be depressed. There is no 4-way actuator as shown in the diagram, but the "Z-stop, which appears to support the spring, protrudes down through the hole in the bottom of the housing to be in position to activate the cherry switches. So that I assume serves the purpose of a 4-way actuator.
Nevertheless, the joystick does not spring back to the center position. And going by the way the assembly is designed I can't see how it should. There is only plastic(Z-stop) on plastic(housing).
Also, I have no idea how the 8-way actuator would fit far enough on the bottom of the joystick to activate the cherry switches because the "z-stop" which is doing that is in the way.
I must be missing something?
Thanks a lot.

This may sound obnoxious, but have you assembled the stick ?
Without a picture of what you're looking at, I can't be sure, but if you don't have all of the pieces on the shaft and held by the e-clip, then there is no way it will center - you need some tension on that spring.
With a pic, we'd have this cleared up in about 3 seconds.
Cheers

I have no picture outside of the link above.
But I think I got it figured out now.
What I still can't figure out is why the Ultimate joysticks inmy SuperNOVA console are different from the Ultimates I just received.
I'm told that there were Chinese imports, so perhaps the so-called Ultimates the SuperNOVA uses are not the real thing.
Thanks.

What's so different? Do the ones in your supernova have a shiny finish? Do they feel stiffer?

The differences have nothing to do with feel.
It is the visual(design) differences I was referring to.
