Title: Search function not working completely?
Post by: JoyMonkey on July 18, 2006, 12:39:49 pm
Yesterday I was lookin for some info on finishing MDF, so figured I'd read up on the wiki a little since I was pretty sure that Drew did a write-up on the different contstruction materials. I did a search for 'mdf' and 'MDF' and got nothing, so I figured I must have imagined Drew's writings and there was no MDF details on the wiki. I though that was sort of strange, since most scratch-built projects seem to use MDF.
Today I noticed there is a page where MDF is mentioned, here:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Wood_products

Why doesn't this come up in a search for MDF ?

It seen the search engine dosen't allow search strings from 1 to 4 chars. When doing that, it allways get a empty results.

But I found a workaround:

Add a new page with the word as a title (MDF and other).
Redirect this page into the main page.

Now, the new word is in the search engine. Try to search again (Since I created these "dummy" pages)!

Yeah, this is a MySQL FULLTEXT limitation. I can set this to three, but the disambiguation pages are a much better fix . Things like "one" would be indexed and that would be not good.
