i aquired a nintendo cab with most of the laminate missing from one side. The guy who peeled the laminate off did a horrible job and gouged the thing up real bad. I sanded what I could, but i'm not getting a smooth surface at all.
Is there a thin, durable material I could adhere to the side to smooth the whole thing out? Like vinyl or something of that nature? I would need it to be paintable of course, because i'm going to paint it DK blue when i'm finished. Laminate is another option, but how easy is that to cut around the sides of the cab and smooth out? Any ideas?

Bondo (http://www.bondo-online.com/)

That might work....this isn't a case of just filling a few gouges, i mean, the entire side is gouged up, it's real bad. I'd basically have to spread the bondo over the entire side and sand it down smooth. Is that possible?

Bondo should still work. It sticks well to wood. Put it on with a drywall trowel, sand once dry. Warning, Bond does not adhere well to laminate.

I have a coat of paint on it now for a primer of sorts. Should i sand this paint off before using the bondo, or will it adhere to the paint?

I suspect the paint will not be much of a problem. Give the paint a light sanding and scuff up the gouged areas with a wire brush or metal pot scubber. you wil have to prime again after the Bondo anyway.

will do! thanks for your help.
