Those crafty Japanese. They're getting closer. It's still a bit bulky though. Funny how they reported the size. They used both metric and imperial units. How retarded was that?
But the usefulness is obvious. I mean, come on. If I let one rip, and I think it has to be the absolute stankest one ever, I could "capture" it, and send it to everyone for their opinions to see if they agree!
How cool is that? :D

Sure we do, MrC. I already gave you a common, everyday application of this new technology. :)
Honestly, I can see it becoming mainstream years down the road.
Then come the returns on items you can "presmell" at home, because something doesn't smell the way it did when you sampled it.

If they get the sensor actually small enough to fit in a mobile phone and the mixer about the size and cost of an inkjet printer (since you need 15 smell compounds), I can see this actually being a big product.
