Title: How to find which line is which in a VGA cord?
Post by: rackoon on July 08, 2006, 05:29:03 pm
Heres the deal. I got a arcadeVGA card from ultimarc on one side and a monitor on the other.

The VGAcard has a 15 pin out put and my monitor has a 9 pin input. I have a list of what pin is what for both, BUT!

PROBLEM: I want to buy my self a 15 pin VGA cord and cut it and wire on a 9 pin plug on the end but I dont know how to identify which line is which when I cut it apart.

I have a multi meter. Is there a way to use it to find what line is which pin?    :dizzy: :banghead:

Use the continuity or diode setting. (with audible beep if you have it)

Touch the two leads together and you should get something like .000       (beep)

Hold one lead on a single cut wire and touch each pin  on the the other end until you find it.
