Title: having video problems with a merit megatouch touch screen monitor
Post by: tfmc369 on July 07, 2006, 12:47:39 pm
i just picked this up recently, and it was working fine..
a couple of days after i got it
after leaving it on for a while, the screen started to jump which maked it hard to play.
when i turned it off for a while and turned it back on, it was fine for about 30 mins and then the jumping would start..

yesterday, when i turned it on, all i get is a small line across the middle of the monitor.
you can just about make out the screen menu in the line..
any ideas on what i can do to fix this?..
thanx in advance..

Sounds like bad solder joints. I would pull the chassis out and redo all the flyback and connection header solder points. And look for any other obvious bad ones.
It may have been heat and vibration related.
(which is why it may have worked cold and got bad as it warmed up)

Start there and hopefully none of the transistors or circuits died on the way.
It could be a number of things, but start simple.

Get a make and model number of the monitor also to have handy.

Merit uses 12 different monitor manufacturers in their games. Make and model of the particular one installed in your game please. There may be a paper label on the solder side of the neckboard stating, "Merit monitor type xx" (two digit number) and underneath that the maker name.

Ah yes the old Ducksan (a.k.a. Merit type 20). Merit used several different models of the Ducksan. The type 20 was made in two versions (type 20 old and type 20 new). In general all they ever need is a capkit and resolder some bad solder joints.

To identify if you have type 20 old version, look at the remote adjustment board. It should have two connectors plugged into it: J1 (12 pins) and J2 (6 pins). Sometimes these connectors are labeled CN6 and CN7. If your remote board does not match what I have mentioned then you have type 20 new. Both use basically the same capkit.
