Title: anyone can help with modchip install?
Post by: jimmah on July 05, 2006, 08:13:37 am
I just bought hardwired chips for my I believe to be v4 ps2s. I am not that great at soldering and would like to find someone to do them for me. The company I bought them from insured me of local installers in my area and would send me a list with my order. Well I got the list and last time I checked California and new hampshire are not that close. These ps2s are for a dedicated gun cab and a sister cab for 2 player time crisis. I own the original games so I'm not looking to pirate them. I also would like to be able to play the virtua cop import I bought for ps2. So if anyone semi local can help me out and do the soldering for me I would be willing to pay for services done. thank you.

PS The chips I bought were the dms4 lite se, also I am in new hampshire.

Off topic, but where you at in NH?  I, and I believe, at least two other people on the boards live in NH.  I'm in Concord myself.  There's a NewEngland BYOAC meetup thing that we do a couple times a year that you might be interested in.  More info can be found in the "meet up" subforum of "everything else".

Anyways, good luck with the modchip.  I have a chipped PS2, but I sent it out to be done.  Cost like $50.  The guy got busted for something since then so I'm affraid he probably isn't doing it anymore.

I'm not going to be a ton of help for you, but I do have something I think is important to say.

If you find someone to do this, make sure they have done other PS2 mods already.  Don't just find someone who is a decent solderer, or someone who modded an xbox, cuz IMHO, they are totally different, and the PS2 is lightyears ahead as far as difficulty is concerned.

Good luck, a modded PS2 is great.  I have one too, but I bought it modded after seeing what the install for a chip was like.

I agree completely. I modded my Xbox with no problems, but I'd never attempt a PS2 mod, those look insane.

I've modded a psx, psone, and xboxes before. I had a first gen ps2 I modded and I barely was able to save it after missoldering a few points.
