Title: Problem with Mamewah!
Post by: SilverVice on March 10, 2003, 09:04:17 am
Hi guys, I know it must be a very newb question but  I setup my Mamewah with Mame32 and ZSnes and each time I try to start a game the emu open and thats it. (nothing happen)
But I see the roms and the snapshots.

I'v try to setup my Mame32 like it was not Mame (like ZSNES) and the games works fine and I also see the snapshots but the game list is showing only the the zip names like arknoid2 or aliensya etc.

Any Idea?

Well, MAMEWAH is not really intended to be used with MAME32...MAME32 has a built-in GUI so why use a frontend as well?

I would suggest downloading the Windows Commandline version from www.mame.net .  This will work fine :)

Whooo! It works perfect for Mame, thanks Minwah :D

Do you have any idea for Zsnes?

I use Zsnesw and I see you use it to in the screenshots of your website. Do you have any idea what I could do wrong.

zsnes takes command lines.... to exit, however you have to hack the hex value for the exit key to escape.

Make sure that you have the 'ROM Path' (under 'Emulator Options') set up correctly to point to your SNES ROMS.  Apart from that I can't think of anything atm...let me know if it works.

No, still dont work.  I can see the roms in Mamewah but when I press "1" to start the game all it does is open the emu.

Same for Gens (I just try) and each emu works perfectly when operate alone.

Exp of the Roms path I use D:\Zsnes\Roms
                                            D:\Gens\Roms

And the roms are in those folders zipped and I told Mamewah that the Roms have Zip extension

I'm clueless?

How about the settings for the emulators themselves?

Check in your zsnesw.cfg that right at the bottom you have the ROM path set (ie 'GameDirectory = D:\ZSNES\ROMS').  And for gens.cfg at the top: 'Rom path=D:\GENS\ROMS\'.

If this does not work then it could be my fault  :-[  I have heard of a few problems when emu's are not on the same drive as MAMEWAH.  Try putting them on the same drive if you can.  I'll fix this next release...

also zsnes only takes short paths
you need to be able to send the path in 8.3 format for it to work

Have you set the "show dos box" to yes in mamewah emulator options, I think gens needs this option set.

Thanks Cave, you're right...I keep forgetting about that every time I set Gens up myself.  BUT you should be able to hear it, just not see it.

And yep, you're right Howard.  But I think the way I wrote it back then defaults to short filenames so it *should* work...

Hey Minwah, I'd just move everything in the same hard drive the ( D ) I'd double check the roms path in both emu (Zsnes, Gens) and nothing change each times I start a game, the emu start and THEN I can lauch the game by the emu.  ::)

I'd never try what Howard said about sending the path in 8.3 format. I dont even know what that means  ???

BTW Thanks everyone for your time, this a very nice FE and I would like to make it work.

SilverVice: email me at minwah1959@hotmail.com and I'll go through it with you and try and figure whats going on...

8.3 file format is the old DOS style filenames, ie up to 8 characters long with a 3 character file extension.  Some emulators don't like todays 255 (or whatever) character filenames.
