When I was young(er) I found an awesome fighting game called Street Fighter 2. Having only played ancient brawlers such as Double-Dragon and Street Smart, SF2's gameplay was worlds ahead of my skill at the time, but I played, and I learnt. My problem was the only thing I focused on when playing this game was not trying to beat the characters, but doing all the complicated joystick movements (well, more complicated than anything else at the time) to perform all the amazing special moves. Wow, and how special and amazing they were!
By the time I had learnt all the moves the next upgrade of SF (with all the bosses included as regular play characters) had been released in our local arcade, so I thought I'd give it a try. So I played away, doing all the special moves and the computer copped every single one in the face. I was getting through them pretty well, when some dude - who was at least a good two feet taller than me - strolled up, and inserted his coins (into the game). Now that's all good if someone asks you if they can challenge, or it's a mate, but what the...? Who did this guy think he was?
A pro. I now had some old pro whoopin' ---my bottom--- all over the screen with M.Bison. To make it worse he let me win the second round by looking away or taking his hands off the controls, and to complete the humiliation he completely exterminated me in the third and continued the game on his credit to completion, leaving me standing there speechless. Dammit! I was only young, not yet a seasoned fighter and all I had to play with was my meagre bloody pocket money - which this guy had in all sense practically stolen from me!
Grrr, it makes me so angry when I think about it. I only wish I could meet that guy again and challenge him now that I've practiced and can play the game with an ample amount of skill and strategy. Then again, he might just wipe the floor with me once more. But at least I'm bigger now and could give him the smack down he deserves.
Phew, I needed to get that out. Anyone ever had an experience like that?

Nope, I've always been that bully!
;D *grin* ;D
Nah, just kidding, I suck too bad. I probably would if I could though. hehe Maybe this Mame thing will whip my game play into shape yet! ;)

Damn some arcades used to piss me off when I was young. Ever use to line your coins up along the glass, where the marquee meets the control panel? Back in the day when I started playing games everyone did it, I mean, screw having a pocketful of coins dragging you pants down. I stopped doing that when I found a cabinet that had an invisible gap, and would open up to eat your money when the play got vigorous. Whoops.

You know how at every arcade there's always a young kid who happens to be amazingly good at the fighting games? He's usually (yes, it's always a 'he') about 13 or 14, invariably wears glasses, geeky clothes and has a soft-spoken demeanor.
That kid was me. I lived at the local convenience store pumping my luch money into Street Fighter 2. The older kids would come and watch and I loved taking them down. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "yeah, well I could kick your ass in real life!" :-)

Yeah I had experiences like that, but it wasn't long before I was so good I was woopin' up on everyone else. I remember almost getting beaten up by this group of guys because none of them could beat me :(

I've been a Street Fighter fan since SF2 but my most memorable experiences were with Killer Instinct. I was just as good as the next person in SF2 and I could hold my own. (Oh I was a terror in SSF2.) But I was unbeatable in KI (Except for my twin brother who happenned to be the only person as good as me).
I was in like 8th or 9th grade when KI game came out. I'd have to have my mom drive me over to the arcade. But I made everyone else empty their pockets. ;D There is nothing like making an adult walk away in defeat. When they want to challenge you one more time, but they're all out of money. My friends even timed me once and I went for nearly an hour on just 1 quarter.
To this day, I have to say that's my game. (Hell... I bought it so I guess it IS my game.)

I rulled in Killer Instinct :) I was the master at TJ Combo (or was it DJ Combo...I can't remember)

My favorites were Sabrewulf and Fulgore. When I reinvented it I became unstoppable with Jago, Glacius and Chief Thunder since nobody ever used him and didn't know how to play off against him.
I learned using Orchid (just as everybody else seemed to). But you get tired of seeing all the same stuff over and over and everybody else always used her.
