Hi everyone,
I became a member here just so I could post this. Being the huge pack-rat that I am, I've been hanging onto this WICO 4-way joystick for about 15 years. It's brand new, still in the original stapled plastic bag. Model # 15-9653. I know that I will never use it myself but I just can't bring myself to throw it away. I don't know if these things are hard to get these days or not, or perhaps it's worthless and I really should just toss it. Anyway, it's FREE for the asking. Just pay for shipping from Vancouver, BC Canada and it's yours. (Q: Will UPS/FedEx do COD's? Maybe regular mail would be better...)

I probably won't be back here often (if at all) to check this thread, so if you want it then email me at:

(Obviously replace the appropriate sections in my email with the actual symbols.)
Happy gaming!

Wow!
I think I lucked out here. I just popped in and read this post. I have the perfect home for this puppy!

Hey, you guys, don't forget to send your credit card #s, social security #s, and bank account #s to this guy along with your address.
-
sounds a little too fishy to me.....
-
pay for shipping... and nothing ships.. thats probably the scam.
Thats why its better to use ebay - which has a feedback system.

Gee, d'ya think? :laugh2: If you only think that's "probably" the scam from a single-post newbie......

Hey Soapboy, I PM'd him to see if he had anything else for sale, and he said he has some ECKSBOX 359's in a warehouse and he's selling 'em cheap. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
-
I agree...sounded fishy. But, I'm smart enough to know when to stop.

You guys are jerks.

You guys are jerks.
shhhhhhhhhhh, don't let them in on our secret.......

WOW!... I was bored and I figured I'd just check to see if there were any replies in this thread. Well, you people are a skeptical bunch aren't you? :) I'm not sure if I should be insulted or just laugh because it's actually kind of funny to see the paranoia I've drawn out. :P Nah, I'll laugh... life's too short to take things personally. It's okay, I'm used to it from forums that I actually do frequent (www.604z.com, www.twinturbo.net), and a healthy dose of paranoia is a good thing when you're online.
Allow me to allay your fears...
- No, it's not a scam. Just a generous Canuck trying to do something  nice .
- Yes I am really giving away ONE joystick. That's it, nothing else.
- I have been in contact with 5 or 6 people from this forum, the first one who replied is getting it. (He was fast!)
- If it were a scam, the other people wouldn't have been turned down. I could give away an infinite amount of vapourware.
- The joystick ships out tomorrow.
- Yes it's really FREE. The recipient only pays for shipping.
- No, I haven't asked for any money yet, and won't do so until after he has received it.
- If he doesn't pay for whatever reason (or I forget), no big deal. I can eat the 10 bucks or so.
- Yes I'm a noob here and I admit that my post may have sounded like a scam of some sort. I don't own, build, or service arcade games. I only ended up here because of Google. Actually, I joined a different forum first but it turned out to be an Atari console site so posting the "ad" there would have been a waste of their time and mine. This was the next site that I found. I have no idea if it's "the" arcade site, but it'll get the job done from my perspective. Here's the deal: I'm doing some serious spring cleaning and this item has been in a box for over 15 years, moving with me from one house to the next. I figure if I haven't used it yet after all those years, I'm not likely to use it ever. But, being from an electronics background, I have to respect a nice piece of hardware like this, especially one that's probably pretty rare by now. I just can't bring myself to throw it in the garbage.
- The joystick didn't cost me anything. When I was in college, a classmate (who DID service arcade games) gave me the WICO, along with a bunch of boards (Zaxxon, Defender, Joust... can't remember the rest). I don't know where the boards went (and don't care, as long as they're not lurking in one of my closets), but this joystick has lingered in my closet long enough.
- And by the way, no... I don't have any ECKSBOX 359's in a warehouse that I'm selling cheap. But I do have some oceanfront property for sale in Arizona. ;)
Thanks to those who replied to my offer, and to everyone else... thanks for the entertaining comments. I've always wanted to be the ringleader of an internet scam. :) I may check back here a couple more times just for the fun of it, but I won't become a regular. The admin can feel free to nuke my account whenever he/she wants; my work here is done.
Happy gaming everyone,
Rich
P.S. Kremmit, I just noticed your avatar. COOL! I actually have some of those little wind-up robots somewhere (both gold and silver). And no, you can't have them!

it IS a pirate... i don't care what anyone says :)
And that was a nice gesture phreezin, I'm glad you can take the ribbing too. We like joking around here.

It seemed hard to belive that somebody would take the time and trouble to find the right message board for something like this (and yes, this is the right place), only to give it away for free. I'm glad to hear I was wrong.
For what it's worth, you're not giving away a Mickey Mantle rookie card here, but those are in short supply, and darn nice sticks; you'll make somebody's week with it.
And the robot's a pic of my very own, from when I was a kid- I've still got it, so I don't need yours, neener-neener-neener! ;D

Not only that - Richard didn't want me to pay for postage until I got it. I have to admit - I think I love this joystick! Timoe pointed me in the right direction to put a 4 way actuator in it - it's currently an 8 way.
The funny thing is - I just so happened to pop on the board walking down the hallway passed the computer. Pure luck! I'm mounting this in my Old School 4 way vertical cabinet. ;D
-
very cool....
sorry phreezin for the dis-belief it's not often something like this happens......
-
Lew,
Keep an eye out for a 4-way base. They are usually grey, and have a diamond shaped opening for the stick rather than the round opening. Any old trashed wico would do, as you have the high wear parts (grommet, switches) as NOS. If I run across one, I'll let you know.
Dont grab the kind that has the screw on switch retainers though. It should have the snap-in switch base like your 8-way.
-
I read that there were different bases for the 4 ways, but I thought that was for the microswitched ones. This still applies to the leaf style switches as well? If so, I'll definetly keep an eye out.
Someone on the board was nice enough to send me a .5" actuator and I thought that was all I needed. Pardon my ignorance - I'm still in learning mode.
-
yeah, 4way WICO leafswitch joys have a different base.
-
so what showed up at his door? and where did you get that joystick? what a seconds............nm
