Title: Grabbed a copy of Mame.66b
Post by: CitznFish on March 09, 2003, 08:39:02 pm
for windows.  I thought for some reason I needed to compile this? Do I? I can't find instructions on mame.net or mameworld. When I look in the zip file I see mame.exe, so i am confused. Why do I need MinGW?

unfortunately I have always used Mame32, but I think I'd prefer Mamew and an FE after i complete  my cabinet, so I might as well learn how to do this the correct way now.

TIA!

do you have to install directX headers to compile MAMEW? I found instructions and it says I need directX 6.1 headers, but that seems old to me. I really don't know what i am doing, just trying to follow these instructions:

You grabbed mame066b.zip or mame066s.zip?

s is source, b is binary.

sicne you grabbed b oyu have the binary.

It's commandline, not gui like mame32.

Thanks SP. :)  I figured it out, so i don't need to compile it. Is there an advantage to compiling your own exe? I think I read somewhere on this forum about editing the source so that it skips the OK and Press Any key messages...

Now I have a wierd problem.. if I want to run a game I see i type mame (romname) but when i try this for pole position I just get a list of best matches instead of running the game... What's that all about??

I havew been looking for teh anser to this, but no luck in finding documentation. Pole Position works in Mame32 though...

some people compile their own things into mame, like testdrivers and such.

You ran polepos right?
